What's your one true "Forever Bass"?

What bass do you have that would be your one and only, go to, forever bass?
Just curious. I have had many over the years, and just thinking what it may be if I were to have only one to fit all.... Hmm...

Well, I keep coming back to a Stingray 5H, so guess that is it. Have had dozens of instruments, including numerous boutique, but just something about the Ray. Have also held on to my Custom Roscoe LG3005 over the years for its killer punch, so it is number 2.

Most of the basses I own.

I wouldn't get 'em if I wasn't pretty darned sure...and I wouldn't keep 'em unless I was 100 percent sure.

If I had to pick just one, it would be a near impossible decision for me. I guess it would have to be my late father's '76 Musicmaster Bass, which he bought brand new. It's probably my "worst" bass, ironically enough. But it has been in the family 43 years, and I have played the hell out of it for the past 11.

In about 1984, I bought a used Fender ash Jazz ('76) with P neck ('73). They had slapped on the obligatory Bad Ass bridge, and @&($$_ed up the original finish, taking off the pickguard, sloppily filling with putty, and brushing on lacquer. Also a Dimarzio alnico neck pickup.

I played it that way for over 30 years, then restored the finish two years ago. If it wasn't for the fact it is close to 12 pounds, it would be the only fretted bass I would ever play. Still gigged regularly.

My 77 ash jazz sounds so amazing. Beautiful balance and low end. I’d love to have a p neck on it but it’s complete so needs nothing. And yeah it weighs a ton but I practice standing every day so I can deal with it.

1966 Precision. All complete and original even with 1966 stackpole pots. Lovely tort guard undamaged and amazing rosewood board. Refinished in the 90s to look like a white appliance, before I got it. Light and resonant.

I have a custom made Zeidler bass i’ve had since 86. It’s not going anywhere. I have a 73 precision with a dimarzio that belonged to a dear deceased friend. That’s also in the permanent collection.
