if i traveled alone or for business, i’d probably have a travel rig.

My vacations are full of activities that cause me to not need/want an instrument with me.

I’m coming up on the 50th anniversary of my first “Fender Bass” lesson, though my first purchase was a Univox.

If I'm travelling on holiday, I'm usually too busy exploring new places to pick up an instrument.

If I’m taking a bass on vacation it’s any bass and PJB Double Four or maybe just a semi-hollow. Never the ABG because mine are gigantic. Maybe one of the acoustic guitars.

I take a tenor ukulele. Nice and easy to pick up and play a few songs the family loves to hear and gives me a way of keeping my musical edge.

Now, after I find my Sonic Blue or Buttercream Mustang bass, I’ll probably pair it with this little Yamaha THR10II WL amp, which is my favorite acquisition from the past five years (a gift). Works equally well for the piezo pickup in my uke, a bass or a guitar.

When I was obsessive about practicing reeds in the 90s i would always have a recorder in my backpack. I also used to always have my casio Sk-1 within reach in the cab of the band truck. I used to run one-handed scales while driving.

Now when I'm on vacation i just want to kick it. But a steinberger and little lightweight 8 or 10 cab would be cool.

I took this little setup with me on a trip to the mountains with my wife for a week.

I'm really liking this little cab for low-volume practice! Even sounds great with the low B of this Ray35, and this one specifically has a REALLY great and tight B string. I am enjoying this li'l box o' bass more than I expected, and it is ridiculously light and easy to pack.

I also brought a Tele and I'm not gunna lie, this little combo sounds pretty cool with it. A little of the Aguilar dirt is nice with guitars, too!

Now that’s the way to do it! My fantasy is to just be at party and I’ll whip out the bass and everyone starts dancing. With that and a cruise it could totally happen! I bet you were either the cool bass guy or everyone cleared out when you entered.
