What's your vacation/travel rig?

I'll join the group who vacations away from everything including putting my fingers to a fret board. I have been known to bring a Martin Backpacker to the camp fire but I don't do that any more either. I once brought an acoustic guitar to a Lake Tahoe resort to finish writing a song but ended up spending way too much time with it instead of exploring with the family. So I never did that again. My advice is take a vacation form everything.
For some people vacation is a time to pursue music. My vacation time is usually a staycation so playing becomes even more a thing. To each his own...
No vacation bass for me. Time will be spent beaching, drinking, eating, playing with kids.
OK...I know I'm not the only one and this post was not seeking my opinion I thought of that after I hit send. To each his own is correct.
I travel too light for any of that. Most vacations I take I bring only what fits in my free carry on bag. If it’s a longer vacation and I can’t fit the clothes I’ll need in the free carry on, then I mail them to my hotel destination and then mail them back. No waiting in line to check my bags, no waiting around to hope my bags come out, no trudging around the airport with my rolling suitcases. One item I pack is new socks, they get worn and thrown away. That space becomes souvenir room.

Neither... just used it for my own entertainment, and learning songs for when I got back.
The only time i take a travel rig is if i’m going out of town for a few days to play and i may need to learn a few tunes and can’t use an amp.
In those situations it’s a PJB Bighead and a set of Sony headphones.

I bring my 95 MIM Fender J (It has the most dings) and a few Headphone amps.
I brought the new Fender one on a trip last week and it was great but I still like the Vox Amplug better.
If anyone cares to hear I have a small rechargeable Bose or Laney I'll plug into.

So "vacation" can mean a few different things for me, and I'm sure that is the case for many.
My wife and I have no kids, so that leaves a lot of room in the SUV for whatever we want to bring on a road trip. We have access to two family properties within a 3 hour drive: one is a really nice vacation house on 160 acres in the middle of Kentucky, and the other is a modest condo right off the main drag in Pigeon Forge, TN. We spend about half of our vacations between these two places, the rest scattered about the country/globe. If it's a shorter 2-3 day trip, or if a flight is involved, I don't usually bring any instruments.
My wife is a teacher, and I have the awesome perk of being able to work from anywhere that has high speed internetz. When she has longer breaks (Christmas, Spring Break, all Summer) we often like to come out to the condo for a little break. I can still work through the week days as necessary but we can go out on the evenings/weekends, and maybe a few nice lunches in the week if I have time.
My fingers get itchy for a guitar or bass after a couple days, so I like having this set around. Also, when we're out this way we often make the trip to her parents church and I'll play bass while I'm there. It's a small country church with just a piano and singers, so this is the perfect rig for that situation. In the past I've brought an Ampeg 115 combo (huge and heavy) or just run direct with a SansAmp (their PA is awful, so this did NOT work out well) so I'm excited to try my lil Aggie/Elf combo this Sunday/Easter.

Mayones Cali4.... just got and plan on using it some in a band setting.....I made.of a couple of videos noodling around with it
We spend our whole summers on the Cape. I bring my Laptop, desktop monitors, Focusrite, headphones and play and write. When I am not at a pond or beach that IS vacation to me.

Man! That thing sounds AWESOME! I loved those things when I first read about them, and then kinda forgot about them. Next bigger sale I close, I think I know where some of muh commission is going!

If I am based in a single area and knew that I would be just longing around I have bought a throwaway guitar there. Besides that I once had a bass thrown at me when I was dragged on stage.
Phil Jones Double 4 and headless Kiesel bass. The amp fits easily in a regulation carry-on under the seat, and the bass fits into an overhead bin....have thunder, will travel
Although it freaked me out the first time I took a long vacation, I have decided that vacations are vacations not just from work, but also from music. I do a lot of gigs (even the last year), and taking a bit of time off renews my vigor for practicing. The other thing that was unexpected for me is that, particularly after a 3 week vacation, all of my basses sound and feel like the most incredible instruments - I'll play for hours, thinking "Wow......I get to play this?!"
That feeling is totally worth it.
