How does one take a vacation when your retired? This is keeping me up nights.

How does one take a vacation when you're retired? Well there are 17 levels of semi retirement and possible increased family obligations. Working for yourself finally many people get busy.

How do you like the Ampeg 210 cab? Can 2 of them be used in a moderately live band? Not a really loud drummer. Thanks!

I love my 210AV and yes I have a second one that when paired up can definitely be used in a live band setting no problem.

Well, I’ve retired 3 times now, 4 if you include the years I was self employed and not really working...we are in the process of relocation to be with our son and grandkids so hopefully we have more family time on the calendar.

I travel for a living. Usually, I try to get out and see things, but there has been a lot of hotel room time this past year.
This has been a Godsend.
TB-4P Traveler bass, a compact set of headphones and a cord to hook up my iPhone to the Aux-In.
32” scale, but less than 36” long. Uses long-scale strings. 6.5# of pure goodness.

I have the exact same rig, even the same colour.
If I need amplification, I add a Rumble 15 to the mix.

It fits in my suitcase for the annual trip to Mexico. Works great for rehearsals on the condo penthouse overlooking the ocean. For gigs, we have arrangements for a proper backline. Behringer monitor.

Well enough. Of course, the rehearsals are usually with acoustic guitars, so all I have to have is some good clean tone underneath the acoustic and un-miked vocals. That said, the little speaker does have a wide excursion, and it actually is ported, and unlike many of the small combo amps listed in this thread, it has 150 watts rms, so no concerns about headroom.

Instead of a bass amp, I use this for my stage monitor for vocals and keys, and the articulation of my bass to assure I am locking properly with the drummer.

Well, of course, all speakers fart out at some point. But the driver in this little monitor is designed for full-range with a good suspension. When I use it as my stage monitor, I mount it on a mike stand and get it up close so it doesn't have to push as hard as does a standard stage floor monitor, and with acoustic guitars, non-amplifed vocals, and only auxiliary percussion for rehearsals, even with our keys player with a portable, it does quite nicely, indeed.

I completely switch off during vacation and focus on family. I tend to carry an empty gigbag though just in case I make a local purchase to take home

If I was to play I'd probably just have an amplug and my headphones.

So, if you want something light that really sounds good I recommend a Mackie 12 powered speaker. You will be surprised.

I have a travel rig consisting of a status streamline (bought used on CL - honestly weighs 5lbs and sounds amazing) + HX stomp board powered by a CIOKS 4 + laptop battery.

I could honestly make the board smaller but I like having an expression pedal and the additional midi control. My main rigs are bigger helix devices so this way I can futz around with sounds and still translate them back when I get home.

the whole thing is battery powered and fits in a mono electric guitar gig bag with the tick.

I take a tenor ukulele. Nice and easy to pick up and play a few songs the family loves to hear and gives me a way of keeping my musical edge.

Now, after I find my Sonic Blue or Buttercream Mustang bass, I’ll probably pair it with this little Yamaha THR10II WL amp, which is my favorite acquisition from the past five years (a gift). Works equally well for the piezo pickup in my uke, a bass or a guitar.

Do the EQs really shape the tone, or do they have minimal effect? I have a Roland and while they work - they don't truly do a whole lot. Can't really shape the tone, but rather just add a bit of bass, mids and treble. In Roland's favor though, it does have different amp models, and those absolutely DO shape the tone.

Just really wondering how much GAS I should put into the Yamaha .

At risk of parting you from your hard-earned income, the Yamaha is pretty sweet. I find the EQ effective and the two effects knobs give a very broad range of tonal flexibility. Need to add I’ve used this only at bedroom volumes or with headphones. Since it has BT input, it’s perfect for jamming to tunes from your iPhone/Android. It works fine for supporting a spirited acoustic guitar but wouldn’t work for anything north of that from a volume perspective. Also, it like looks really cool and, due to the aforementioned BT functionality, it doubles as a portable speaker.

I'm putting this on my GAS list.

I REALLY have to get past whatever keeps me from selling stuff. I have so many basses and so much gear I never use. If I start clearing out I can buy new toys with a clear conscience.

My Roland works fine. I have a Blackstar I never use. I have a Roland Guitar Cube too, that never sees the light of day. I can't justify this, no way, no how.
