Although it freaked me out the first time I took a long vacation, I have decided that vacations are vacations not just from work, but also from music. I do a lot of gigs (even the last year), and taking a bit of time off renews my vigor for practicing. The other thing that was unexpected for me is that, particularly after a 3 week vacation, all of my basses sound and feel like the most incredible instruments - I'll play for hours, thinking "Wow......I get to play this?!"
That feeling is totally worth it.

I'm more hobbyist, less paid gigging guy. In my situation, there is never a time where bass or guitar playing is "work" or a responsibility. It is always enjoyable and I look forward to it every time. Being able to do that during down time ON TOP of being on vacation?! Pure getaway bliss!
