When do you know you have too much gear?

All 5 string. All American.

I have 6 amp heads.
Gallien Krueger MB-500
GK MB-800 Fusion

I have 6 cabs
2 GK CX210s
2 GK 410s
2 Mesa Subway 212s

I’m currently waiting on Sweetwater to get stock on the new GK neo IV 212s. I have a pair of the 8 ohm models on order.

Yeah. I got a lot of sh**.

I had a bunch of stuff.
Now I have a Warwick and a Stingray luthier-made on the making.
A bass head and a 4x10.
I'm gonna buy some pedals and I'm done.
I guess IME, having so much stuff it's like you're buying things cause you dont know what you want. I ended up selling everything.
Now I have the things that i really need and i know what kind of pedals I'm gonna buy (just a bunch of, 4 or 5).

Hmmm

Next time I ask a dumb question like this on a sight full of people that suffer my same condition I’ll try to think it through a little better.

All the gear I have I will be keeping.

I already have money to burn in investment accounts.

Both my houses are paid off.

I have room to spare for equipment.

I have rarely tripped over equipment at home. On stage is another story.

I don’t hide equipment under beds or behind curtains or couches.

In fact I can’t find another bass or amp I want/need to own.

I have a newer reliable vehicle that can haul any equipment I could need to any gig and can easily get me any distance I could need to travel.

I think I’ve covered most of the replies here. At 3 pages probably not.

Oh my wife looks at me funny when a box comes from Sweetwater but it passes quickly.

There that should be everyone.

Ummmm.

Ha, there's a lot of similarity to my gear list.

I also have five 5-string basses, though only 3 are American made (Stingray 5HH, L-2500, and Precision V). My semihollow is Japanese made (an Ibanez AGBN-205) and my Franken Jazz is a cheapie Chinese SX with all the non-body parts replaced with American made after-market parts (it looks like hell but actually sounds fantastic).

I have several G-K amps and combos (and recently sold an MB200 and two MB500s), as well as a Mesa D-800+.

My cabs are the biggest difference - two Barefaced Big Baby 2's, two Hartke Hydrive HD210's, and a Barefaced One10 (that I'm tempted to find a mate for so I have a pair).

I also have a pedal board that is a bit much, too, in addition to about 12-15 pedals I like too much to get rid of (including about 10 different OD pedals).

Crap, I guess I do have too much gear, especially for an old relative newbie who's just a bar band hack. :D

When you spent months hunting down a specific piece of gear you so desperately “needed” only to have your SO innocently ask: “What was wrong with the one you already have? Did it break?” when you triumphantly show it to her.

I have been less than wowed a few times buying gear. I have regretted selling gear dozens of times- regardless of how much use it received at the time.

My rule for past 20 years (am in low 50yr range) Never sell any gear.

I have given away gear to buddies or family members and a few items remain out on loan for an indefinite period. This will continue but selling because I have too much?
