Is it wrong for me to be anti-pedal but only due to extreme laziness?
I love pedals, but all that plugging in and stuff at gigs is exhausting. Especially when you have tons of pedals (tuner and chorus).

My pedalboard requires one cable to my DI and/or amp. All the other plugging in I did at home.

You are such a casual @JimmyM . I rewire everything when I play outside the comfort of my home. I also always remove the strings and neck from my bass and put it back together every time.

On the opposite side of the spectrum- people give me a hard time about bringing my exotic wood fretless 6 to a blues session. Standard issue silliness and bass xenophobia.
I would not rock a skateboard pedal-board in church, but I'm also certain that nobody would get distressed by it... and I play in three different Christian environments.
As mentioned by many, the church scene can get pretty whacky- evangelical churches feel like AA with music on some occasions.
My personal beliefs don't fall in with the "you must be saved so you become self-righteous and point your fingers at others" school; it sounds like the music minister in question hasn't worked out some personal issues or is placing too much value in the perceived opinions of others.

At my old church, I played a Dean Edge 6-string, wore combat boots, wore my hair down, and had a black leather vest with a black dickies work shirt and a red-striped tie tucked in. It wasn't appropriate at all, but I wasn't criticized either. I wasn't getting paid and they knew me well enough to know my intentions were good.

Why is a pedalboard distracting or offensive, on a skateboard or otherwise? Church doesn't need to be safe or sanitized, even though many think so. Let it all out, that's what worship is. I'm going to guess the entity we are worshipping isn't offended by the pedalboard or bass, but actually pleased that you're using them to glorify and worship?
On second thought, when I was playing in church, there was a guitarist whose pedalboard offended me. It wasn't the looks, the pedals, or the board though... Perhaps it was the same bad barre chords through his weekly new boutique guitars and pedals... oh yeah, he was an entertainment lawyer who badly screwed some good people from that church.
