Where'd you get your Funk from?

The first step on my way to the groovy Oneness was 'Masterpiece' by the Temptations in the early seventies. Luscious vocals with spacey mix over pulsating rhythm totally melted my then slightly high-brow heart.

Then I met those funky ladies of Labelle fame. Great singing, great musicians and great New Orleans rhythms with that nearly falling-off-the-chair kinda syncopation. Here's a lecture on astronomy.

Man, I wore that album out! One of the baddest-assest tracks ever is on that album: "High On Your Love / One Mo Hit". The whole thing is 7-and-a-half minutes, but it's worth hearing the whole thing if you've never heard it. The way Rick and the band build it and transition to "One Mo Hit" is just epic -- the band is just on fire!
