But if I’m hearing you correctly, I should keep my $200 Squier, buy a bunch of tacos, and spend the rest on a Noble Preamp? There’s one on Reverb for $2500. I think it could really round out my sound.

Any fool with a galvanized washtub, a pushbroom handle, and 5 or 6 feet of weedwhacker string can make a better bass than the one suggested by the guy who wrote the post above this one. You know I'm right, don't you?

You will spend some money, but the result will be worth every nickel.

Maybe you should spend your money on searching for the earliest version of bass guitars (or the most collectable bass ever) and when you have spent the $$ to find, then go see it and maybe pay a few $$$$$ to play it, put it down, take some pics and go WOW what a memory. (and I you don't even have to store the bass or worry about it being stolen too)

Oh, I have the perfect one for you. I saw this bass one time at a guitar shop back in the 90s. It was made by... a company? I don't recall the name but it wasn't Fender or Gibson or Rickenbacker. So that narrows it down a lot. Also, it was black. Unless I am remembering wrong and it was sunburst or red. I think it had a pickguard too. It definitely had pickups, at least one. Possibly two. Three maybe? Seems unlikely but it could have been. It's been a while so my memory isn't that great.

Anyway. That bass was awesome and you should buy it.
