2. If it does not have a tortoiseshell pickguard, buy one and install it
3. Unless they are La Bella flats, immediately remove whatever strings it came with and install La Bella flats.
4. Buy a fedora and a pair of Ray-Bans to wear on stage (I recommend Clubmasters but Wayfarers are a solid choice)
5. Learn to play "Get On The Good Foot" and the correct bass parts to "Cissy Strut" and "Mustang Sally" (Wilson Pickett version)
6. Let me know if you can cover any Fridays for me next month

You don't need to spend big to buy good. Owners talk of their low-cost basses being better than their high-cost. Don't let anyone give you the squit about only a Fender P doing it for you.

For a million dollars you'd think "the tree" would've been capitalized, photographed, and a 3000 word description added regarding why I need a bass made from "the tree".

Not a lot of difference between a $1000 indo made bass and a $300 indo made bass. Mainly the finish, All made in the same factories, side by side, same craftsman, generally the same wood. lots of the same parts. Quality does vary within the brands. My suggestion is to go to GC where you can touch several, see if the action is still low after setup, no weird grain patterns or knots on the neck. Or buy a used one, the neck has had time to settle down or freak out.
Particular brands? I have a LTD, generally they are good choice. Don’t laugh, I also have a Sterling Ray4 I bought as a beater, but I play it at 75% of all my gigs. I was able to hand pick it out of a few.
