Which Colors Correspond With Which Notes???

That really won't work since the visible light spectrum spans less than one octave. Since eyes and ears don't work the same, why limit the idea in this way?

IMHO, Conceptually you could make a spectrum analyzer that overlays the sound spectrum with the visible light spectrum. This would allow you to graphically display octaves, intervals, and harmonics/overtones encoded with color. Also, you could modulate brightness of the display with the volume of each frequency, so fundamental tones would be brighter than overtones.

Right. I am fine with the idea that some people do have chromesthesia. I am just not fine when anyone says, for example, that the note Bb represents, I dunno, "yellow" -- implying that it's the same for all human beings.

So, if it's agreed that the phenomenon varies from human to human, then all these charts with "this frequency equals that color" are nothing but b.s.

But then of course, if it's on the Interwebs, it must be true!

I agree...I guess I am just trying to make the distinction between BS and art.

Mostly just toasting in an epic bread, but also to politely ask the wet blankets who keep posting the same wikipedia links to tone it down.

Surely, there must be some kindred spirits willing to follow this Psychonaut down his rabbit hole?

I’m really surprised no Western Esotericists have chimed in yet. The correspondences between the colours, the planets, the days of the week, the names of the angels and demons, etc. is a subject of deep interest for me, not least of all because of their possible applications to music theory.

I can't see doing the full color spectrum each octave. More like low notes are violets and blue, on up to red yellow and then white at the highest audible notes.

All the notes on the bass are blue and similar but maybe burgundy up above the twelfth fret.

The idea had to do with the colors and pitches common existence in the frequency domain. This excludes, and makes the operation of eyes and ears, and all the strangeness of that irrelevant.

None of this color/sound linking has any basis in physics. In chomesthesia, colors are subjective, there is no universal correlation. If you have it, great, enjoy the light show. It must make music more of an encompassing experience. For the vast majority, i.e. the rest of us, attempts to create one are great, if you are trying to set a standard for making color organs. Do not be fooled into believing there is a universal, mystically resonant connection though.

I’ve got sybesthesia, where my sense of sight and sound are sort of cross wired. Specific notes have specific colors and even textures to me, so listening to and playing music is a highly visual experience for me. It contributes to something like perfect pitch even though it really isn’t. So none of those color charts register for me because my internal color/sound experience is different. Interesting thread though.

Yep, but many of those plots also clearly show a stronger first overtone than the fundamental, which is what I was getting at. Apologies for the lazy posting!

:facepalm: Now I get it. I am under the impression that electric bass is fairly unique among the instruments in that the first overtone is stronger than the fundamental...but I could be wrong on that point too ;). You make we work way to hard though :roflmao:.

So far it seems like E should be Violet and F should start the spectrum again At Red.

But........

I’ve been dying to associate the right Colour with the right Notes. I want to take one guitar and one bass.... sticker each fret with the notes and colour of the note....

Every source I’ve researched has a different opinion...

spectrum of light waves do roughly correspond with the frequencies of sound waves ....

I’m hoping some of you have thought about this as well or are interested enough to do some searching...

I think you could also shade those colours up and down per octave.

I’d like enough reasoning to definitively decide on the right colours for the right notes.

There’s info all over the world....I found technical information associated with numbers and spirtual information associated with the senses.

What do you think?

I’d like to do this with a higher end fretlight guitar. Lights in the fretboard light up to show chords but more importantly all the relevant notes in any scale you can think of. Would be an amazing upgrade for the fretlight concept to have the notes coloured.
I think this is a tremendous waste of time and effort.

If you get deeper in that thread I also did plots further up the neck, with very different results. So as usual...just depends. BTW, those waterfall plots take a while to render, so for something like a live color organ something else would likely work better.
