Yep. I don't want red anywhere near my bursts. Yellow and brown/black. That's it. Also, I actually very much dig gold anodized guards. That Road Worn 50s P-bass they make is pretty much perfect to me, though I've never entirely ginned to the notion of artificial wear.

View attachment 1008591 I am not a major sunburst fan, but I always preferred the more tobacco burst to the three tone sunbursts. I am not big on the gold anodized pickguard in the pic but a good parchment would be perfect.

C. It's closest to my '73. With a little
A thrown in.

Gorgeous! Is that a Spitfire tort? stunning...I'm actually in the 2 tone tobacco burst camp as my fave...hey did they only do those on P's? I can't recall seeing a Jazz with that particular 2 tone color, I would like that lots.
MJ

Edit: Mine seems to have a very thin black fade in at the edges. I like that.

I detest sunburst. Way too overused. It doesn't feel like YOUR bass. It always feels like someone else's bass. It's visually unappealing and looks cheap. Tort makes it worse because SB&T is the most common combination for any bass. Tobacco burst is amazing though, and a cream pickguard with it.

I briefly had this Fender American Deluxe Jazz with a beautiful orange/red burst. I wonder how a Precision would look with this burst?

What's up TB. Let's get this out of the way: I like Fender, I own 4 Fender basses and 1 guitar. They make fantastic instruments. I also think they put out some junk at times. But this is not an anti-Fender thread.
Ok, back on topic. One thing I'm REALLY picky about is a sunburst finish. I've broken down the different types of sunbursts I've owned and I'm curious to see what TBers prefer, or if you guys even care. Vote in the poll!

A. Distinctive 3 tone burst. Yellow-red-black. Seems more common in vintage basses. This is my preference.

B. Burst with no yellow, lots of orange and black. I call this Halloweenburst. My least favorite and unfortunately (IMO) the most prevalent in modern MIA Fenders.

C. A mix of A and B. A bit or orange, red, black with a hint of yellow sometimes in the middle.
