Who Actually LIKES Their Guitarists?

haven't known my guitarist very long but he's the one who got me into the band so I can't hate him for that.

Man, I got a great guitarist, at the mo its just me and him but we make such a great team (still looking for a drummer)

I just like it how he can come up with a riff and I can make a pretty damn fitting bassline to that riff, hes so easy to write with! such a legend only known him for 2 years but his guitar playing skills are pretty damn extreme! Unfortunately, at times he does tell me to play ride basslines... not the funnest at all :L

One of the guitarists in my band is down-to-earth, musically smart, almost always in tune, plays for the song rather than for himself...he started out as a bass player




But seriously, he really is a great guy and a good player, without any of the typical "guitard" issues. Our other guitarist can play circles around every other guitarist I've ever played with, plus he's become one of my best friends.

So I'm pretty happy with both of them!

Crazy 50 year-old dude, pickup driving type, wirey and all, funny as heck.

Would have bet my life me and him were opposite personalities, turns out we click like crazy.

Got an email from one of my guitarists asking if we want to add a song to our setlist. It's Cheryl Cole's "Parachute". I'm not a huge Cheryl Cole fan (until a few months ago I didn't know she had anything to do with music, I only knew she was Ashley Cole's wife), but... a guitarist who wants to play fun dance music that guitarists typically hate? Such a guitarist is a rare treasure.

I realized my guitarist is without a job, no insurance, typical blue collar guy who's also the typical victim of this recession. No technological training whatsoever. Worked as a chef in Vegas, got canned and replaced, you guessed it, by some illegals.

My drummer and I have started to give him odd jobs to do around the house and backyard. Yet the guy is an awesome classic rock guitarist.

He's got a song that he's been writing for 40 years. We've decided to help him record it and put it on the Web for him. It's never going to make him a millionaire but it's going to sure help with his self-esteem.

most guitarists i have played with are ego driven maniacs that coudnt back up half the stuff they spoutted off about ("i can play any style of music i want i just choose to play ______")

the best guitarist ive ever played with has been my best friend for 10 years but lucky for us we can keep band life and outside life seperate because we can hang out every day for weeks on end and not argue about anything but a month into being in a band togther (we have tried these godawful experiments countless times) one of us always ends up quitting because of the other one...generally me and guitarists dont mix well

I have never been in a full on band. But my best friend was my guitarist, so...

edit: he also preferred playing rhythm guitar so I guess he couldn't be considered your typical guitard.

There is a young singer/lead guitarist who hires me for his Salsa/Funk band who is actually a very nice guy and a pleasure to work with. There is also another young jazz guitarist who I regularly work with that is a really great guy and a pleasure to share a stage with. The MD at the church I work at is also a great guy to play with (he plays acoustic and sings). Other than these two young lions and the church MD, I am generally not a fan of guitarists.

Now, if this thread was about pianists, I would probably have even fewer people on the "like" list!

tbh im a guitarist playing bass. maybe ill cross the threshold after a while on the low end, but ive been on guitar for a few years before this so still getting used to bass, and theres plenty i dont know. working hard on my fingerstyle though ^ ^ theres hope yet.

Welcome to the low end brother! I started as a guitarist too (my parents made me take music lessons, so I chose classical guitar), but no one will hold that against you if you have realized the error of your ways and are changing over!

I like all three of mine. Our lead guitarist handles all the administrative stuff and plays a strong role in leading the band. He's a prosecutor, so he tends to be a bit analytical. The others are more laid back, but no drama (unless the band gets too loud at practice).
