Who do you use to insure your instruments

My Inland Marine policy is thru The Hartford. The broker I used was Heritage Insurance Services at Heritage Insurance Service - Insurance for fine musical instruments Insurance My annual premium is around $250 for all my stuff, which includes basses, keyboards, PA, my piano, etc. As was mentioned, that's a business expense for tax purposes. I also have never had to make a claim (fortunately), but with all the instrument thefts I read about on FB, I'm glad I have the coverage.

I'm surprised your homeowner's agent didn't recommend a carrier or an agent. In insurance parlance, it's an Inland Marine policy, and as posted here, there are many specialty groups out there for you. He must live in a bubble or be an idiot. :rollno:

Mine are covered under a special rider via my Allstate Homeowners' policy that covers taking them out of the house for gigging purposes. I had to provide photos, itemization and value but it was a pretty simple process to extend the coverage.

I have an additional policy brokered by my insurance agent that covers our musical instruments. My wife's horns are worth more than all my basses, go figure. It also covers the PA and studio for vandalism damage, fire, theft, flood.
Back when I was touring the musicians union offered coverage, don't think they do any longer.

Be very careful with what you are buying as insurance and make certain that it is what you think it is. Most homeowners'/renters' policies will gladly add a rider listing your gear and gladly take your premium money for them. But if it leaves the house for a gig (and whether you get paid is immaterial for this) they won't cover the loss. You have to specify that it is exposed to that risk and be insured for that. Don't assume it's covered because the agent took your money.
My ex was an underwriter for a very large insurance company (based in the STATE illinois in the middle of FARM country) and they wouldn't cover professional gear, but would add the rider listing them.

Lol in my country if they wanna steal it they will get catch fast .
Two reasons
Most musician are connect so when you steal it no place you can sell it.
Other reason model of guitar use are so limited .
Like in best only 25 Ibanez sr series available so by limited instrument ,no one into steal bass or famous instrument m
Instead sometimes cheap guitar strap from house like Yamaha c70 because at least you can sell it .

Had a friend they steal his fender strat and it didn't take 48 hours police catch them .

Exactly, Don't assume because they are listed as scheduled property on a Homeowners policy that they are covered playing out, even if the agent says so.

i recommend heritage, also. very nice people to deal with, and while i haven't had to file a claim, i have a couple friends who did and it went well.

I use Music Pro Insurance. It was really easy to get started and it's very simple to make changes to your equipment list online (just made a change today). Right now, I have just under $20k in gear covered for $252 a year. Thankfully, I haven't had to use it, but I like that it covers virtually any circumstance with your gear for a $100 deductible.

So far, just a "rider" on my homeowner's policy, for "musical instruments in professional use." I'm thinking of dropping coverage if I decide that I can afford to be self insured.
That's what I have. For some reason it's called a " marine " policy ! Anyway, it covers me everywhere, house, car, gig, even if my stuff is hauled by someone else, and stolen.
