Who played in Kenny G live?

Like what? Having free range on stage? Traveling first class? Staying in cushy hotels? Get your own solo spot nightly? Play with first class musicians? Get paid a really nice salary to have a blast night after night? Play ballads, latin, pop & funk music (a nice mix)? Go out into the crowd and actually interact with your fans and they love you back? Be a part of giving away a signature sax worth at least $3-4k?

Nah! Not the kind of gig I'd want!! :rollno:

You forgot playing music you really don't like night after night... that's a part of that reality too.

In response to vail_bass's post above: I don't like Kenny G's playing. I find his playing to be a bit bland for my taste.

On the other hand, Vail Johnson's playing with Kenny's band is unbelievably awesome. Check clips of him on youtube taking solos -- he's ridiculous. His hands are fast, but his mind is even faster -- his ideas and his ability to change them as he goes through a solo are as wild and fertile as Kenny's playing is emotionless and sterile.

I think you already know that has absolutely nothing to do with the point I was making, and doesn't even contradict it. So what is your point?

The point you're making is that you're the arbiter of what's good... which is extremely close-minded. Saying things like there's no quality at Wal*Wart sums it up nicely.

More money doesn't guarantee quality, it can be had for less money. Depends on what profits one wants. It also doesn't guarantee that someone will prefer it over something that cost less money.

You have this weird "quality" equation that I'm guessing you'd like others to buy into. The "masses" buy what they want and unless something is good enough for them to buy it, they typically don't. The idea that they "deserve" better music (according to you) than what they like is... well, what would you call it?
:D

I think you missed both. DWBass said he would have a blast, as does Vail.

I see the point that you couldn't have fun. :hyper: I get it.

You'd much rather bark than think, huh? So be it.

There are a lot of important considerations beyond playing bass to consider.

My comment had nothing to do with what "I" might want to do. If you'd actually read the words, we wouldn't be on our third try at clearing this up for you.
:D

MR PC said that you'd have to want to be in his band. Do you disagree? He said that there's more to consider than playing bass. Do you disagree? DWBass seemed to miss what I followed up with, which was that it would help to ACTUALLY LIKE what you were playing, that if you hated the music you were playing that it wouldn't be the no-brainer DWBass made it appear to be.

This was never about what I personally would do... and simply reading the words would've made that clear.

If you're even following this far, do you understand the point now? Do you get it?

Wow, this is one UGLY thread. I'm gonna try to stay above the fray while tossing this grenade:

Richard Thompson has weighed into the debate with a song entitled "I Agree with Pat Metheny." Here's a place where you can see the lyrics as well as link to an mp3:

Enjoy. I now return you to your regularly scheduled flame war.
