A lot of people hate on Guitar Center, and sometimes there's good reasons, but I've had good experiences there for the most part.

And I'm pretty sure they offer the best deals on trade ins. I mean, you're never gonna get full value for a trade in because the store has to turn some profit. But I've consistently got around 70% value on my trades.

They also discount the instrument that you are trading for most of the time. Last week I traded a bass that I rarely played for an amazing Music Man Caprice that was originally 1700, but in clearance for 1200... because of the trade they did an additional markdown to 1000 - for a brand new Music Man.

Guitar Center is about the worst, but they've always been that way to my recollection. You walk in to a Guitar Center, then you're desperate, and you know what you're in for...kinda like McDonalds.

Yes, in both cases you unexplainably think it's gonna be better, then after a few minutes you realize it was a mistake.

The only redeeming thing about GC is their online used stuff. I've bought a few things there and it's turned out good, although I know it can be a crapshoot.

Mickey Ds without a doubt. Yeah, I know we all eat there, but for the life of me, WHY???? Do we really think this is good food? Good for us? Cheap? Tastes great? It’s like we a zombies programmed “I must have fries and a coke and stale ground beef on a bun with enough condiments and onions to disguise what I’m doing to myself”....
I don't eat there and they are by no means cheap.

I voted McDonalds, being a saintly veggie person who just occasionally lapses into a weekend of traditional haggis gluttony, was surprised to find it has the most votes!

I think there should be a category for people who buy houses next to music venues then try and get them closed down with noise complaints. They are the worst. And if McDonalds did that they would be the worst twice.

Surprised about the CL negativity, I just got off the phone regarding a sale of something that would have been just about impossible to get a reasonable price for any other way, A vertical Guitar stand that holds 8 guitars. I've bought and sold gear on CL and have made a reasonable profit because I can find the people that really want what I've got.

Is there a better way for a private party to sell gear out there that I don't know about?
