WHOA...Digitech The Drop

Saw this a few weeks ago on Active Bass and was really intrigued. I don't currently have any pedals (though I've been looking into it), and this seems like an excellent one to start with. It'd be nice not to drop tune my bass (or bring another bass entirely) just to play a few songs. And the momentary switching option could make for some interesting riffs.

That bass demo sounds better than I expected - I can hear some tonal weirdness at the most extreme settings but it mostly seems bearable.
Pretty sure I'll get one to try in person.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel about it. I do agree there is just a touch of tonal weirdness down at 6 or 7 half-steps (although the octave and octave+dry sound fine). But I mostly think this is par for the course for this type of pitchshifter. My Morpheus Droptune has the tonal weirdness most notably on clean, worse the further you go. As I've probably said before, based on the demos this sounds at least as good as my Droptune on guitar, and better on bass. Add in the smaller footprint and more agreeable power requirements and it seems to be what I wanted.

I'd love to have this in the next two weeks - is there any update on release date? Going down to record and I've been pitch shifting to a low B with the M5 but it just doesn't sound great. I don't have a 5 string but do have a couple .120's I could throw on a bass to record the two songs we have that go low like that. But I'd love to stick my M5 back in my rack once we start playing these songs live so having something smaller like The Drop on my pedalboard would fill my needs perfectly.

Nerdy question: is it "Drop" or "The Drop"?

Anyone seen one in the wild, yet?

There's another thread floating around about all of the new Digitech and DOD pedals. In that, DigiTechRep said that Drops were shipping to distributors last week (I think), so it's still going to be just a bit before dealers have them.

I think its a great idea for a pedal and ill give it a shot when i see one. I occasionally use my bass whammy for this type of thing with my 4 string. I think the 4th down is invaluable as it keeps the notes on the same fret (just shifts a string) so you don't have to try to "relearn" the fingerboard as much. The momentary switch aspect makes it more interesting as well because the whammy doesn't have a momentary switch. I'm betting though that the algorithm used in the drop is probably the exact same as what's used in either the bass whammy or whammy 5. If I'm not mistaken those two pretty much share everything with the exception of a few presets.
