Yeah I guess I should update that. I've finished the course except for recital. Spent a few semesters with Duncan Brown and most recently Mark Costa. Very worth spending some time with Duncan as soon as you can, and then Mark. In that order. I've had to defer halfway through this semester, but I'll be back in Sydney when I can.

I learn everything I transcribe. That way it can become a technique exercise, as well as practice in articulation, phrasing etc. If it's just a lick I'll practice it through the keys so I can digest it as much as possible.

Just sat on Wes Montgomery's "D Natural Blues", and before that it was another blues - Clifford Brown's "Sandu".
Nice to see there's another Bob Berg freak on here. I started transcribing the solo from "Friday Night..." at some point. "Snakes" seems like a real challenge. I love that album, and Bob's playing in general. "Enter The Spirit" is also a brilliant album. I actually walked up to James Genus at a Dave Weckl show a couple of days ago and thanked him in person for his playing on it....

Just did Hank Jones and Miles' solos on Autumn Leaves, now I'm going to do George Benson On Broadway to get some of those funky bluesy licks under my fingers.
