Whose Main Bass Is A Vintage (Over 30)

Not quite 30-years yet. But my regular everyday bass is a 1983 Ibanez RB924CS with two soapbar pickups and cherry sunburst.

+1

My 1983 Ibanez Musician 924DS P/J, active/passive pups, 4 string, 3 band eq. with dead ground rounds on it is the one I use most for practice and it goes to the few jams I do with my buddies. It's a bit heavy but has a slim, fast 24 fret neck that's easy to play.

Since I really can't play yet I feel a bit weird responding to this but for sh!ts & Giggles, here goes.
Yep, my main bass is a original 1962 Fender Jazz Bass Refinished in 1963 from sunburst to Shell Pink.

Well, not my main main bass... but my main backup bass is a 1982 Steinberger L-2. I bring it to almost every gig and definitely to every studio session just in case. But if I'm lucky it never gets played (not that there's anything wrong with it; in fact, it's a fantastic bass) but it's always available should anything go wrong with my main bass. And it was my main bass from '82 until '92.

I have an early 60s Epiphone Rivoli that was my gigging bass until I bought an new Precision in 1974. I still have the Epiphone, but it's retired now.

I bought one of the last Fullerton reissue Jazz basses in the early 80s. It and my Precision were my gigging basses until I bought a new Fender Aeorodyne in 2003. I bring the old ones from time to time, but I love the Aerodyne. I used to feel that if something happened to it, it wouldn't be the end of the world. But, I'm really attached to it now.

After getting much more response than I anticipated, I feel much better using that '78 now.

Makes it seem very un-vintage compared to many here!

can i ask whats wrong with using a vintage instrument?

im not trying to be rude or anything at all, it just seems odd that there would be an issue with playing vintage instruments, and i was wondering what your take on it was.

No problem!

I didn't infer that there is a problem using a vintage - now having one myself - it was more a case of the older it is, often they become more valuable, either monetarily or emotionally - and so using it publicly for gigging, etc, is maybe more risky than a newer instrument, as replacing it would be a far more daunting task than a recent off-the-shelf model. That's all!
