Why do you drink?

ok this is what i think

no one drinks to get drunk, thats an outcome

no one drinks because they like the taste, thats an excuse

drinking is just another drug that doesnt need a prescription and people use it to self medicate

and yeh thats what i use it for, to sooth the nerves but most people wont admit to using it this way as it shows a weakness which we think we dont have.

Yeah...the getting drunk part is the self-medication part.

For me, it's not liquid courage, and it's not a social lubricant, as I've heard it described by other people. It's a social anaesthetic. I don't much like being out and about with other folks, and I don't much like staying at home alone. So I go out and drink, and it makes being out easier. If I drink at home alone, I just get depressed, so that's not good.

For the record: I hate beer, but appreciate a good whisky or rum.

I just love the taste of beer, and I love experiencing new beer. Every week during the summer I go out to one of our local Flying Saucers and will try 3-5 new beers during a night. It's a lot of fun because I'll be out there with my closest friends, and we'll all get a little buzzed, tell stories, flirt with cute girls, and play a game or two of darts. It's just relaxing and fun. We're not there to get trashed, but rather we're just there to get a light buzz and have fun. Of course, sometimes we drink just to get ****ed faced and do stupid things :D

Beer and wine don't taste better without alcohol. I enjoy the taste of them.
As for you Kwesi, I only have 2 things to say.
If you can't start drinking without having to end crapfaced, you'd better stop drinking or dramatically reduce your intake as soon as possible. ALcohol isn't good for you.
Use your resistance to hangover now. It doesn't last forever.

You think wrong.

I've developed a taste for good bourbon whiskey. Problem, I do have a tendency to sometimes drink too much, and this has gotten me in trouble. I don't drink every day, but when I do..... sometimes I overdo it. The buzz, or the taste? I can honestly say that now, in my late forties, it's more for the taste. So I have one more. Mmmmm, delicious. Maybe another? Uh-oh. I should probably quit but I truly love the taste. Crap.

I'm in college and I never drink to the point where I don't remember anything. Don't plan to either.

cool, and if you have not tried a Cape Cod.

It is a fruity drink but simple...vodka cranberry.
My favorite. Caught alot of BS from the guys about liking fruity drinks. I said hey dont know what to tell you beer taste like crap and gives me a headache.

Vodka it taste like crap too...add some fruity flavor, its good.

I think I liked to expose myself to other men, and in general it made them mad.
Some how this was incredibly fun. Being drunk just made it easier. In the long run between setting drums on fire. and getting naked. Pretty much every hot regular bar girl knew me by name. Most the normal girls I liked were scared of me.
The ones that loved me were all crazy......go figure never knew setting stuff and fire and getting naked would attract strange people.....

Sounds about right. Rarely do I ever drink with it being the main event. Most of the time, it's to be out, "loosen up" a bit, and have fun with friends. I've only drank a few times with the entire purpose being to get blitzed.

I'm sure you can tell from my previous posts, but I strongly disagree. Perhaps part of a some folks' reason to drink is to escape the real world but just because that part exist doesn't automatically make all other possible reasons irrelevant. Also, you cannot say, with any certainty that no one drinks for the taste. There are people who like the taste of waaaaaaaaay nastier things than alcohol.

Drink some hefeweizen sometime and you'll definitely start drinking because of the taste.

I don't drink because it gets me in trouble, and I know I'm much better off in every way without it.

I think a lot of people drink because they have to, but will never, ever admit it.

Some people drink to be sociable, and stop as soon as they feel tipsy.

I think most people drink to loosen up, numb their insecuritioes, and let go.

I'm almost positive that my definition of drunk is mild compared to most folks, just to give some point of reference. I can enjoy drinking for the taste with the right drinks but I've never had a drink for that alone. Actually, I went out to a club (music, not dance) and had a taste of four different drinks that I'd never tried before. I just asked the bartender for something sweet each time and I really liked all of them... kinda wish I'd thought to asked for the names of them, haha.

Anyway, getting back to my actual point. When I say I drink to get drunk, I don't mean I drink to completely lose my mind. I don't throw-up, I don't black-out. The most questionable thing I've done while drunk is hug a really busty friend, lol. I'm just me... but I little weirder and less able to do anything with finesse or precision :D.

Because beer is delicious, and there's so many styles and breweries that I have to drink more to try them all.

And the fact that I like that moment after 2 or 3 beers when my brain finally stops going a hundred miles a minute and I can actually relax.
