Why do you drink?

I used to drink to get drunk. My reasoning was that it was a waste of money to have one or two, because it didn't do anything. I also lived with lots of heavy drinkers.p

Now I live with folks who only drink on the weekends, or have a glass of white when it's hot out (like today). My tolerance is way down, so a couple drinks does relax me. Also, heavy drinking is bad with my medications.

So, I drink to relax a couple times a month, and well before I take my medications at night. However, ever once in a while (read: a couple times a year) I will have half a dozen beers and get pretty buzzed going out with a group of friends.

I used to be a bad drinker, like a 5th per day, so it's best that I've calmed down. Don't thrash your liver. It can happen in less time than you think.

Why do I drink?

Because there are lots of Single Malt Scotches out there - I like it straight, with plain water on the side, no sugary crap please.

And Gin and Tonic or Beer on a hot day.....My liver loves it.

That, and I'm just about immune to hangovers, lol.

We all start out that way. The thing you won't realize until it's too late is that we all get issued a certain number of "get out of hangover free" cards when we're born. Once you use them up, that's it. Gone.

Enjoy it while it lasts ;) :D

My three favourite beverages also!

I generally drink to get drunk, although I do definitely appreciate the taste of some of my drinks of choice. My main go-to is a Black/White Russian, but a good pale ale or Cider is always nice too.

I'm in college and I never drink to the point where I don't remember anything. Don't plan to either.

Well here's your problem.

Ggvicviper's thread got me a-thinkin' and I didn't want to derail his. So, why do you drink? At this point I'm pretty sure that I drink with the expressed purpose of getting buzzed or drunk.

That sounds pretty bad but I honestly can't think of any other reason I would. Alcohol makes pretty much everything taste worse to me so I would never do it "just because" or for the taste. Drinks with alcohol can still taste good but they always taste better without, in my experience. I want the effect - plain and simple. I want it as quickly as possible, in the most easily drinkable package. If I don't feel like getting a little loose I won't have anything alcoholic.

I can't just have a casual beer, well I can but it would have casually lead up to me being tipsy later on. I have to plan it out. I have to be sure that the drink will do something for me and that I'm actually in a position to drink reasonably. Too early? Might have to do something, won't drink. Too late? Might be sleeping soon, won't drink. Alternatively, I'd have to drink too much too fast to be drunk a decent amount of time before I sleep and I have no interest in puking.

Yeah, so... thread title. GO!

Never out to get drunk, and I almost never get drunk. A little buzz is ok, but that's it.

I choose my drink for the flavour and it's nice how it can loosen you up a bit. But a bit. That's it.
Yes, I did silly things with drink when I was a teenager, but past 25 you pretty much know how to take your drink.

I love a cold beer when it's hot and sunny. Usually with some kind of snack. But one, maybe two, not twenty two.

Red wine... I almost never drink it with meals, but a good one can be nice.

Gin & Tonic is a favourite too. Especially Hendricks. Funny how I hate cucumber, but this gin is just delicious. G&T is tasty, refreshing, does not make you full like beer does, and it actually wakes me up when I'm a little tired, so it's an ideal night drink with friends. In moderation.
It's also nice sometimes to get home from work in summer and sit relaxing for a few minutes reading with a glass of G&T.

I don't see the point of getting wasted. You act like an idiot and you are not as functional as you could the next morning. Not fun.
And of course, when you drink excessively, certain male functions may be impaired... ;-)

I cannot stand the taste of beer and haven't had my first real drinks till I was 22 now 23

I do it socially cause in a real uptight nervous person and it makes me not give a damn.

But I really love nothing more than drinking by myself.. Actually my favorite thing to do is have something strong and just sit or lay down. Sorry I never smoked weed or anything do this is like a high for me.

I actually think most food tastes better when consumed with a well-matched ale, wine, or spirit...but I'd probably be lying if I claimed I would still think that if alcohol didn't also provide a buzz.
