Why do you drive the vehicle you do?

Because at the time (2006) it looked to be the best combination of price, reliability, fun to drive, comfort, interior space and fuel economy in its class.
2006 Mazda3 Sport (HB, 2.3l, manual, GS trim). It has met or exceeded my expectations for the most part. Fuel econ isn't great, but not bad considering the way I drive it. 6 years, 100k (km) with only routine maintenance so far. I expect to easily get another 4 years out of it, after which I am buying a BMW 335. Because I want one.

Volkswagen '95 Transporter: it's slow, full of space, drives like a boat and sounds like a real car.

I have a 99 CRV, it gets good gas mileage and I can fit all my bass gear in it. I can also fit all my camping gear in it or use it to tranport 5 people. I try and keep a car for at least ten years and then by another used car with low mileage. I save up my money for the ten years and pay cash for my cars. I hate paying interest to banks.
The truth is, if I lived in the suburbs or the country and had a garage with space I would have a 49 mercury as a toy. I am form North Long Beach after all.

2003 Honda Civic, and 94 Nissan 4x4 PU for the mileage, but after checking the 2400cc Nissan's mileage - I only get 16/18 MPG. Maybe I should have gotten the the small 6er instead.
Sorry my phone likes the longer # for whatever reason, I'm running 20" wheels with maybe 1-1/4" profile tire, can't remember the exact # off the top of my head.
10-1/2" was the width, and again the difference from the stock 17" wheels and the upgraded 20x10-1/2" with tires were almost virtually the same minus about 1/4" just more wheel & less tire as opposed to more tire & less wheel.
The stock gear & tire value changes are programmed through the tuner so the car compensates for the change and very little is effected in RPM's etc.

I think it's great that you guys are really into your careers or passions for automobiles and want so badly to get into the technicalities of my modification choices. However I am not a mechanic I simply like going fast. I honestly think if you and Angus went back and forth over each other's vehicles, you'd have a much better discussion, I am more than ecstatic with the results of my mechanics decisions and how the car has handled them, and drives as a result the car runs phenomenally well and turned out exactly how I wanted it to turn out.
I'm not sure if this is all just a way for you guys to have a reason to talk about your own cars, or to share your Vast amounts of mechanical knowledge with the group and my car is the channel being taken to get there, but think that's completely unnecessary being that this is a thread about your car and why you drive it.
If that wasn't excuse enough to discuss your car and why you choose to drive it IDK what is.
I'm not a car specialist, a mechanic, a speed shop specialist, a automotive tech, or anything remotely close.
I before my lay off I was in construction management (Superintendent), done a lot of sales management, currently have a small business dealing with titles & Liens.
I can talk that stuff with you all day long, but discussions about the technical workings of automobiles is not my thing.
I was simply sharing my car type and the mods done and why I think it is fun to drive.
I was told that my thought process was "silly" and I responded to that because I didn't see the logic in Angus's reasoning and honestly still don't.
The car started stock at a certain power level.
A few mods later and it is noticeably faster, launches much faster and harder, shifts much shorter and much smoother, all while still maintaining its original drivability.
If somewhere in that mix something is bad I'm failing to see it. I've seen nothing but much much better performance.
Now, can we PLEASE just go back to talking about, and appreciating our own vehicles?
I'm definitely not into the whole back and forth about who's car is better/faster/cooler or who's exhaust has the best "Tone" for metal
You two seem to be much more into that than me which is why I think you two should be having this conversation.

And if I'm in anyway coming off rude/short or seem to jus be an A-hole, that's not my intention and my apologies if that is or was the case.

'06 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. Because I was relatively happily domesticated at the time with good pay and gas was still $1.50 a gallon. Did I screw the pooch on that one! It is a nice ride though and I do enjoy it when I do drive it. Spend most of my time on my bicycle these days though. Which is also pretty good, can't complain.
2006 Acura RSX. Small, fairly fun to drive, and gets 36-40 mpg, which is important since I drive 130 miles a day round trip to work. It is beat and ugly with 210k miles ,but it still runs ok. Also have a 2001 F250, which. I bought when my wife was showing her horses a lot and we needed something that would handle a 14' stock trailer. She does not show the horses any more ,but it is nice to have something that will lug 50 bales of hay or get out when the snow is drifted two or three feet at the end of the lane.

You'll have to forgive me as I told Angus VIA pm, if I'm reading you guys wrong my apologies but being a Mustang owner with modifications, it is my experience these conversations end up in nothing but negativity and typically a pissing contest of who's car is faster/better.
I couldn't count how many mechanic/Corvette drivers I've had start these conversations.
And they ALWAYS start exactly how these did.
I have no desire to take part in them.
Funny part is, as far as the Vette guys go I like Corvettes MUCH more than Mustangs. And would trade it in a second.
So please forgive me if I misread you or Angus or both of you, but 9 times out of 10 these conversations are no better than discussing, politics, religion, abortion, or what strings are best for metal it's just not my thing.
All that matters is that we're all happy with our stuff, and our views and our selves.

MY vehicle: Why a Rover? (I believe that was part of the original op's question) I am not a car person. Been driving pickups, trucks, suv's since I started driving. I owned 1 car and never went back. I was an off-roader for several years and I just cannot go back to a car - it's not in my blood. And I have driven several makes/models of SUVs/trucks and there is nothing like the solid, sure-footed feel of a Rover. Nothing compares IMO.
Over several years at my aftermarket automotive hi-performance employer I have had the pleasure of driving a variety of cars and trucks where I work because we're not allowed to drive our personal cars between bldgs. It's fun to experience other makes models - most are project cars with our products in them.
What I'd like to drive someday is this (if someone would teach me):

What a deal! I love rovers. I had that model and I still miss it. Currently, I drive a 2010 Range Rover Sport and a 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S ...hubby's car, I get to drive it on the way home since we carpool everyday..

My Rover's engine is a Ford. 510 hp
. Vic IS super cool! He likes my Rover. Edit : I owned a Ford f-150 4x4 for 6 months and sold it back to the dealer. Because, I moved into a house and the truck was too tall to fit in the garage....not allowed to park outside where I live.
I have owned, both a vette and a mustang, but I prefer vintage vehicles
I often joke that the only car I could ever experience both understeer and oversteer while navigating the same corner was a first generation mustang
I've driven the new model Mustang at work and I like it. I have not driven any of the newer Vettes but I can't see not liking them as well. The last Vette I drove was a 1988 model. I'm so short that I can't fit in them - sit too close to the wheel/ airbag. They're not made for little people!

Oh wow, that's cool. Are you going to have the guys in R&D play with it a little?
It has a Supercharger already - most likely an Eaton but it doesn't say anything on the engine. They are sooooooo busy, they don't have time.
They've tested my motorcycle many years ago. I had a Kawi ZX-750R.
It's really a Jaguar motor that Ford borrowed for a bit. I'm jealous, though- I got mine the year before they bumped it to 510. Sigh. I also like it better in white.
76' VW Bus. Restored and stock with a nice stereo. Its me in car form. My dad got it years ago for nostalgia and when it came time for me to start driving I told the ol' thing over and have been driving it ever since.
