Why don't we hear more about Bass Mods?

Before you do anything call Bass Mods and ask about the weights of their K6, K7 and 7 string jazz bass clones.

TB classifieds are full of guys lying about the reason why they are
trying to sell/unload their "incredible basses" that happen
to be heavyweight basses!

As far as weight goes, I don't like the weights of Carvin's JB4 & JB5 either.

I own two nice Fenders, but I think Carvin makes the best
basses at the $1000 - $1200 price range.

No knock against Bass Mods, I think they make nice basses.
You have an extremely nice bass. 9 lbs. is a great weight!

Fair enough. I really love my Bass Mods bass and the experience I had buying from them. I am sure Carvins are awesome (I love the P-bass they do) I have just always wanted a 35" scale Jazz bass without paying too much.

I was interested in them back when I owned my 7. Since then I've come to realize I never actually use that much range at any particular gig. 5 strings are plenty for me. Standard beadg and drop A with my band, eadgc for everything else.

Nah when I said I looked into them I meant past tense. I owned a decent 7 string before. Was fun for noodling at home but I just don't need one for any gig I play. Beadg, aeadg and eadgc are plenty for me.

I purchased a Bass Mods Maurice Fitzgerald MF5 with Reed James pickups in gold. Man, it is the bomb!! I have own a couple of other basses including a 1975 Fender Jazz, Fender American Deluxe Jazz V, SIRE Marcus Miller V7 and many others. The Bass Mods MF5 kills them all and it is the bass for my sound (R&B/Gospel).

I haven't been lucky with Bass Mods. This year in June I placed my order for a 7 string bass at the Bass Mods' website and the order was confirmed but thirteen days later the order was cancelled with two untrue reasons by Rob (probably Mr. Robert Lemas).


A hunch.
He might be an agent of the secret police organization, something like CIA.
Sorry, Mr. Robert Lemas, if that's not a fact.

The news seems to be spreading about Bass Mods basses. I came very close to getting a K534 bass. Here are more clips featuring Bass Mods basses:









With regard to the comment that Sire doesn't sell Sire, Marcus Miller sells Sire, I respectfully disagree. The reason why I didn't get a Bass Mods K534 was due to finding out about the Sire Marcus Miller V7. This is an amazing bass for a whole lot less $$$ than a K534. The K534 seems to be a really good bass and I haven't totally ruled out getting one. The reason why the V7 is selling like crazy is because it's a great bass! Combining Marcus's expertise and design insights with Sire's manufacturing know-how resulted in a great bass! Regardless if Marcus' name is on the V7, if it wasn't a great bass, I doubt if it would be such a hot seller and I would not have kept mine. Both Sire and Marcus deserve kudos for coming up with one of the best basses for the money that I have ever played or owned and my very first jazz type bass.

Interesting analogy, I agree with everything you said.

I could care less about well known artists endorsing the Bass Mods bass.
They will soon move on to the next best thing and the Bass Mods bass will continue to be a great bass!

I like your attitude! I suspect that many great bassists who stick with one bass do so because they feel no need to change when what they use already has brought them so much success.

Yes, we are allowed to have more than one tool in our tool boxes.

However, when a bass is everything that you say it is there is no reason to change basses continuously!

P.S. - Good example is Sharay Reed and his Fender with the Suhr pickups. I've seen multiple replies on Youtube
of guys telling Sharay to change to a: MTD, Carvin, etc................

He continues to play the bass that brought him success!

At the end of the day, just play well. I've been the guy with the cool bass who sounded poopy. It's more fun to be the great player on a beat up bass. I'll settle for being a decent player with a decent bass.
