I just subscribed to Bass Mods YouTube channel. They seem to be producing some nice active Jazzes at a great price.
I bought one of their 3 band eq's with passive tone running 18v. Affordable and tasty, i put it in my Aria Cat bass.
Yep. Are nice. I've got a 7 string Bass Mods with spalted maple top. The thing sounds/looks/plays like a million. And the price was reasonable too (especially compared to my Conklin) The only reason I don't play it much is that right now I'm not into a 7 string thing.
Before I bought my Wolf seven string I looked at them.

I'm good with J style basses right now in my collection. I'd be interested if they did a P, though.
I almost bought one of their fretless basses before when it was on clearance. Since then they stopped offering four string basses so there isn't much I could use from them anymore.
They seem to stick to the 5 to 7 string Jazz basses now, with a couple 5-6 string PJs thrown in there.
They look like a good value though for what they are.

A bass player friend of mine who tends to be super picky just bought one. I haven't played it yet though but it at least looks decently cool.

You just described 95% of the bass market.
They don't seem very Fender-like. For one, these guys offer 6- and 7-strings. Plus, their 5-string basses have necks as wide as most 7-string basses. Love that string spacing!

And that's why I ignore the majority of the bass market.
I'm tired of seeing the Fender "Face".

I bought a drop in pre for a jazz from them right on the tail end of their ebay run. It was a standard jazz so i needed three jnobs and a jack, which i ordered, with an A/P mini toggle. What i got was a four knob plate with no jack. Contacted them by email and explained the situation and the reply was i should be glad i got a more expensive unit than i ordered. I explained i had no desire to drill a jack hole in my bass and the reply was basically that i lacked a sense of adventure and a repeat of i should be glad i got a free upgrade. At that point i thankd them for thinking enough to give a free upgrade but i was not going to use it so just send me an RA or whatever and i'd return it for a refund. Long syory short i wound up paying to return the item and afer almost a month of back and forth with things like, the owner has health problems and he's the only one who can authorize a refund and other assorted stalls, i finally turned the mess over to ebay, and got my refund. A couple weeks later i get a very butthurt email saying if i wanted a refund, all i had to do was ask. After that they basically faded from ebay and i thought they were gone. I had no idea they went into the bass business.

That seems like their primary demographic.
The only cat I know who plays them is Will Birckhead from J Lo's band

That's probably a big factor in the lower prices. Being super picky about has to drive up prices. If Music Man tried to always make 8lb. basses, they would probably be nearer to $3k instead of $2k.
