Why is "Metal" constantly being bashed by "real" musicians?

There are many different categories to metal / heavy metal. Some examples are: death metal black metal metalcore thrash metal, Screamo and what I call poser metal ( the wanta be bands that leave a bad image on the metal community ). A hardcore death and black metal fan like me who listens to some of the heaviest metal there is will not get a long with a poser metal guy who listens to emo kids scream. Some bands I listen to are children of bododm Sodom megadeth metallica iron maiden judas priest, behemoth emperor meshuggah cannibal corpse diminished and the agonist to name a few. Some more poser metal bands are like bring me the horizon bullet for my valentine attack attack and my chemical romance. I don't go preaching they suck on YouTube or write it in public bath rooms I just don't think they can be considered metal nor you should judge the entire genera on 4 or so bands..

I'd say that's not an axiom by any means, but don't you think there could be a slight possibility that there might be some music that you could actually end up liking, in a genre which made a negative initial impression on you, if you heard it?

Anybody that claims that a particular genre of music needs no talent is ignorant and should not even be considered a musician.

A true musician isn't narrow minded when it comes to genres, there's great and horrible in every genre.

That being said. If anybody ever says that it doesn't take talent or skill to play metal just show them this video. Should shut them right up. Alex Webster is one MONSTER bass player. :)

I don't care that metal doesn't get the respect it deserves. I have a couple of reasons for that.

1. I know what different musicians can do. Most metal musicians can play other genres very proficiently. Even including the almighty Jazz.

2. Popularity means nothing. The Big Mac may be the most popular and thus, most loved burger on earth, but that doesn't make it the best. I view metal as being the 'best burger you've ever had', from some unsuspecting dump in a bad part of town. Most people will never give the place an honest enough chance to realize.

3. If everyone liked and respected it...it would probably suck.

4. If everyone liked metal, I could no longer see some of my favorite bands in small clubs for under $20, and even get to meet and chat with some great musicians. These are luxuries that most bassists/fans of other genres don't have. They're stuck paying $50+ to watch their faves on the Jumbotron at some horrible stadium or arena.

I like the "I outgrew metal" comments, especially.

I wonder: what if someone like Steve Harris (now 55 years of age) had "outgrown" metal...like many of our esteemed-and probably just as successful :rolleyes:-TB members that are in to other genres.

Think he'd be on an internet forum bi**hing about what's "real" or not? Griping about what other folks like to play?

I doubt he'd actually care about it.

How about we just wrap this whole thread up with this. This thread is just a big fat target for metal-baiting and too many of you are biting.
