Why is "Metal" constantly being bashed by "real" musicians?

Really? Really?

Let me tell you a story about "Metal Acceptance". Back in the late '80s, I worked in a music rental place here in town called Music Power. The store was in a bad part of town, and had rehearsal studios in the back. The night guy was this nice goofy Hispanic kid (I forget his name) who ended up in the hospital. Why? Well, we had a group who leased a room by month that were big Slayer fans - they had SS tats & nazi BS on their leather - they were real, honest-to-God metal jerks... So one night, they decide it would be fun to "Stomp a mud" - so they hospitalized this kid working nights because he wasn't lily white. So while it would be unfair to draw a conclusion that ALL metal bands celebrate racisim/nazis/etc - there is a clear & certain element of the genre that does. So there's that to love about Metal. :scowl:

Thats extremely unfortunate. But I think your correlation is backwards Neo-Nazi's are probably more likely to listen to metal/punk music, but I wouldn't say that fans of metal/punk music are more likely to be neo-Nazis.

Same unfortunate results of the whole Columbine debacle and all the heat Marilyn Manson took over it. But then there was that other story, where the kid hung himself listening to (I think) Blink 182 and they got alot of crap over it.

If Hannibal Lector was real, people would be bashing classical music.

Do you remember this quote? "We don't like change. We are afraid of change. Change is bad." I'm not sure that I got the quote 100% correct because I haven't heard it in a while, but what ever.

I was making fun of the idea that if you don't like a genre, then it must be because you don't understand it, or haven't heard the right material within that genre.

I hardly think you can hold a style of music responsible. They were ******** who happened to like metal, not ******** because they're fans of metal. There's a very fringe element of metal that does glorify crap like that, but its much more fringe than bands like Slayer. The most offensive thing an average Slayer fan is likely to do is that annoying habit they have of shouting, "Slaaaayyyerrrrr" all the damn time. You're going to find lowlifes in every part of society, in my experience, they're no more or less common in the metal culture than any other.

I find it quite interesting how rap music witch is some what mainstream music now can easily talk about drugs rape fighting and promote them easily. This may be a regional / coincidence but every rapper or person who listens to rap that I know all do drugs and 'scrap' all the time. Hell today at my high school there was this dealer I knew and this other guy whom I know ov both listen to rappers have rappers on there t shirt broke into a fist fight in the cafeteria. Not like you see metal fans mutilate a body. But you see rappers fighting ( and usually murdering ) all the ime. Look at American jails most people in there are black and most listen to rap and 'freestyle' in jail. I can't see how political people blame metal for all of this. It's a very interesting topic to look up and I could probably go on about this subject for ever bit my girlfriend ia here >:3!

Don't forget the part about that one rapp guy who raped a 12 year old girl in a music video.

What the hell are you talking about? You can go on for as long as you like about the subject, but I'd rather you spent even a little time talking sense.

Metal is bashed because music "purists" dont understand it..
Look at the Headbangers journey documentary at the end.. go to Wacken open air and sit in the middle of all of it.. we're fine, we don't need to be accepted.. "if you don't feel that feeling we get when listening to metal then you just don't get it and will never get it and you know what, because judging by the 40 thousand metalheads around me.. we are doing just fine without you"

My apologies for participating in a flame war. I wasn't trying to bash, but just to offer a bit of insight. I've got friends who are self proclaimed metal heads, and I appreciate the idea of an art form that you can enjoy for its own sake without anybody's approval.
