I can't figure out the poll choices. I have never been under the impression that Ibanez was an unpopular or low volume bass manufacturer. I've owned a couple and they weren't my cup of tea, but tons of people around here have a bunch and love 'em. I'm very confused about this thread? o_O

this was my number 1 for years

I don't think there's anything wrong with them. The image is that of a bargain brand. The same is true for Yamaha. Good instruments, but the price makes people think they're cheap instead of being a good bargain. The model numbering system may be easy to use to figure out what exactly the instrument is, but lacks the attitude of owning a P or J.

With the few music shops I've been in around me, I've tried my fair share of Soundgears, which seems to be the only range anyone stocks near me. (I've tried from the GIOs up to the SR1405, including any 6 strings I could find)

My only two gripes with them were the thickness of the body (too thin for my tastes) and they are the only neck profile except the Gibson EB 2014 that I just couldn't get along with.

One SR that I tried a few years ago was the SRSC805 with the purpleheart fretboard. It sounded great and felt better than the other SRs but I just couldn't get on with the single-cut design.

I've always wanted an ATK bass though, never had the chance to play one before unfortunately.

I don’t know how to answer the question. I’ll try anyway.

Ibanez makes good products that sell well. They are popular, and lots of folks love them. I have owned several and still have two. I’ve just moved on to basses that work better for me.

Just my 2¢ Its their perception of being a starter bass brand & not many Major Artist or Players use them, I think their legacy of Copying others has hurt them as not legit and the lack of a recognized model! They just need a Legit Endorser.
They missed the boat with Marcus Miller, He started his own company! With all of the small innovations they produce, they've fail to produce 1 signature model! No one says I need an Ibanez Road star,to complete my stable!

Thundercat, Gary Willis, Adam Nitti, Gerald Veasley etc... Seems like a pretty good rooster to me!

I've always loved ibanez, great value for the money and the premium and prestige lines are absolutely stellar.

They have some of my fav necks, the SR 5 string neck and the ATK 4 string neck are ideal for me.

I didn't understand what the poll options were for.....Most conversations are about an American made Fender something......Not American made Ibanez something.....It's like looking for information about a Sony camera and most of the people in the thread say buy a real camera get a Canon.....I don't own a P bass.....I do have an elite jazz bass.....I don't run into Ibanez bass discussions......It is nothing that I believe......Just what I see and hear.....And thanks for your perspective on it.....
Huh?

The OP may have perceived things that way, but it's almost opposite to how they are. They're well-regarded, well-specced, have a solid history, popular on the circuit and in the basement garage band, and have a huge range of price points. The only problem I have with them is the way some people mangle the name: "Oi-bun-nezz" managed to be wrong on practically every count, including all three vowels and even two of the consonants - outstanding! :)

I love my Ibanez Basses and I don’t think I can get anything similar from any manufacturer without custom ordering. They check every box, unless vanity about the name on the headstock is one of the boxes. Plenty of fenders around for those folks.

I've had an ATK300 in natural finish and had a really nice tort pickguard made for it.
It had a cool 70's vibe. Loved it.
The second was an ATK 200 in a dark tobacco burst. Really nice as well.
For some reason I sold both of them at some point for something else. Still miss the 300..
