Now that's what I call a wind instrument!
I actually laughed out loud.
For the times when you need to play Stormy Weather......
Too many wind instruments already on TB . . .

Used basses can be awesome deals. But used basses were once new; if no one buys new, it limits what is available used. Not just that, it can possibly put a bass manufacturer out of business.
Support your favorite brands and artists (I still buy CDs despite having Spotify) buy buying their product!
Like my girlfriend told me some time ago "it's your money, spend it on what you want...". That's also my thoughts on the issue, if someone wants a high dollar Bass, it's their money to spend as they wish and more power to them. If they choose a cheap/used Bass, for whatever reason, that's OK, too.
My father has a saying "it only costs a little more to go first class", so personally, I will pay more for what I perceive to be higher quality/value and generally get what is best for my purposes, even if it costs a little more.
No judgement, either way.
The widow's Mite.If you are responding to my OP, remember that I said don’t worry about what you can’t afford.

I support buying new when I can too. Everyone used to talk about the great deals on used Peaveys. Now that Peavey is defunct, those great used deals have really steadily been drying up.
Fender isn't the only brand out there. How many boutique or small builders, some very well respected, have gone out of business the last few years?Ya...Sorry, don't buy it. Fender ain't going out of business because I buy a used bass.
Yep. And maybe if enough people bought those Peaveys new, they'd still be making instruments. Maybe.I support buying new when I can too. Everyone used to talk about the great deals on used Peaveys. Now that Peavey is defunct, those great used deals have really steadily been drying up.
I hear that! After a few threads wondering if the prices of given basses are justified, I have come to the conclusion that it just isn’t worth worrying about. If you cannot afford a bass or don’t think it worth the price, buy one that fits your budget and call it a day. We are fortunate to be consumers at a time when quality instruments are available at many price points. I say spend your time getting better instead of getting caught up in instrument prices.![]()

I mostly agree with this. Especially as a regularly gigging musician, instruments pay themselves off within a matter of weeks, if not a month or 2.
However, I was in the GC near me yesterday and a new Fender sunburst American Precision bass is listed at $1899.00! Yeeow!
I often reference Marcus Miller because in conversations like this because he reached GOAT status playing a bass that I think his Mom bought for $275. I remember him doing the tour with Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke, I think Marcus’ Fender sounded pretty good compared to Wooten’s Fodera and Clarke’s Alembic.
These days, Marcus Miller uses a Sire five for his fretless segment. If the GOAT uses modest basses, I can be happy with them too.
Makes total sense. I’ve played two basses today. One cost me over £2k, the other just £100. They’re both great fun to play.I’ve done lots of gigs in the past on cheap basses (when they were all I could afford) and loved doing it!After a few threads wondering if the prices of given basses are justified, I have come to the conclusion that it just isn’t worth worrying about.
