Kanye's going to be at the upcoming Grammy Awards. Probably best not to joke about his wife dating Pete Davidson.
You don't? Even after having a close look at most of the celebreties being put forward here, you don't get it?
Academy Board of Governors member Whoopi Goldberg tried to explain on The View why the Oscar Management team decided against removing Smith after the assault. What she said needs elaboration, if I'm going to fully understand it...
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar both appeared to be dumbfounded by Will Smiths action.
Similarly many other comedians are expressing outrage. Of course! They are comedians, clueless to the fact that not everyone appreciates their work.
Will Smith was actually very clear in his message, which seemed to be, "Joke about me all you want, but leave my wife out of it." He was the most clear thinking person at the whole event.
This event was not an attack on performers, such as musicians and actors. But it may signal a decline in the appeal of these kind of insulting comedians.

That is NOT the way the winds are blowing.
Most people do not want to condone assault, which is illegal, or equate it to someone making a joke while performing as a comedian and a KNOWN quantity, which is not illegal.
I don't think that acting rashly in a way that might well get you arrested is clear thinking. I had a long discussion earlier today with someone who was attempting to whine about how she was bullied as a child and therefore feels that giving the bully his due was justified. Well, I was bullied as a child too, and I understand that mean-spirited humor is weaponized, but these are two grown ADULTS, they are not children in a schoolyard. Adults should model more appropriate behavior.
Smith is lucky charges were not pressed. Had it been anyone else, anywhere else, he would have been detained by security and led away from the premises in handcuffs.

It seems to me nobody came out of that looking good, it's merely who came away from it looking the least bad. It was a string of wrongs not making a right. Rock's joke was lame to begin with then Will Smith said hold my beer.

This. Guy half slaps other guy. Dumb and a poor example. He's an actor, I don't follow his behavioral lead. He's not a thug (that's a loaded word isn't it?) he just did a stupid thing.
The sky isn't falling down because of what went on at the Oscars, it's falling down due to other much more impactfull stuff.
