Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready

I hope my current idea of building something out of production since the 80s with a few modern twists fits the theme.

I will, eventually. I gotta get these other two done first. At my normal rate of one build every two years, the pointy thing should be roughly 2024-ish.
But I can tell you, the wife unit has made it clear that I SHALL NOT start this one until the other two are done.
I need to make one of these so I have the full collection. I already have a Warlock and a Mockingbird. The Iron bird is missing, and I'm not paying what the original ones seem to be going for.
I'm gonna say it does.
Probably makes more sense than what I'll come up with.
I dunno, I think the whole "ship of theseus" fits it pretty well.
Although you may have to start the build thread with pics of the Kmise neck and Yamaha body so we can see how the project evolved.

My point is, I've been working on a custom guitar, run into a problem, and then built an entirely different instrument to learn the best way to resolve the problem on the first guitar. More than once.
If I had to finish the first guitar without learning to resolve the problem, that guitar would have been worth much less...... while sitting on a stand in my bedroom for the next decade.
I like that @Beej !!! I'm gonna go practice my new rebuttal in the mirror for a while. I have roughly a half a hour between the time I get home and the time she gets home.

Don't know how it fits the theme, but I kinda want to build something with a Rickenbacker shaped body, but with Music Man humbuckers. Possibly as a bolt on (never built a bolt on) and its gotta be a 5 string. Do a maple/ walnut/ maple burger for the body, and a 5 ply m/w/m/w/m neck.

My wife said the same thing about the house. After the kid left, I said I can't wait to knock his bedroom wall down and open up the kitchen so we can have a dining room and more light in the house.

I figured it wasn't that original of an idea. That looks pretty close to what I had in mind.
Look at it this way: Your idea was good enough for a company to make a production model out of. I say do it!
The way I see it, if I think of something that I've never seen or heard of before and then find out it already exists afterward, I still credit myself for inventing it.
I'm with you. As a ten year old, I designed a four-level freeway crossing. Later I found there were grown-ups building my design.
Final dimensional cutting and finish sanding is done. All it needs now is the routing and finish.
