Winter Build Off 2022 - Get Ready

I suppose I could build my CBG-inspired 4 string not really a CBG.

The trick is to do that part between 2 and 4 am because you're not sleeping anyway...

No, I need my sleep. And if that's interrupted, that time is allocated to watching ancient aliens, so that won't work.
I'll just have to find time during the day and my employer will just have to make adjustments. It is what it is.

Honestly... that's precisely what I did during my last year working at a company called "Roadrunner Furniture and Shutters".
I was in charge of their "special projects" division anyway. I was building all the weird orders nobody else wanted to mess with. So my position wasn't affecting production.
I told my boss I needed more time for my bass building hobby. He was cool with it.
So I went from 40 to 30 hours to free up Fridays and weekends.
Not long after that... the company folded.
(Not my fault)...

Hardly… If you do it right 5 months is barely enough time to make templates, new fixtures, test pieces and let’s not forget a good hour or two a day just to sit and have a good think about the next build. Why if you plan it out that stuff could easily eat up a year or more!

Sometimes ya just gotta look at it.

I’m thinking about this for the winter luthier thingy here.

I’m thinking something semi hollow, fretless, and some kind of blended p bass and piezo/internal mic.

I cheated. I mean… I used the resources available to me.

I superimposed a double bass over a scale length drawing and adjusted its size until it fit right, then I added a cut away.

I always look at the maple when I go to Menards just for that reason

There is no chance I can finish anything in 3 months so I'm not in the build off, but watching everyone else build stuff for 3 months is definitely something I am interested in!

Same with Home Depot around here. I check the maple rack every time I go. Some of my best figured maple has come from Home Depot. It's perfectly kiln dried, dimensioned, and cheap (compared to other sources of figured stuff at least).

Down here there is no maple. Just poplar, oak, and pine.

Yeah, maple at Home Depot type stores must be regional. Here at least, they have walnut but otherwise it’s oak, poplar and some radiatia pine.

Yeah and it varies; we had maple and walnut here for a while, now it's back to oak, pine, and poplar. I need to check what's currently available around here.
