That has to be disappointing, but I can’t see any remnant of the break. Expertly done and a good save! Though I wish you much better luck tomorrow.
Thanks folks, it was an annoyance for sure, but since the break was splintery but with no missing pieces, it went alright.
So remember I was concerned the stripes in the body aren't purpleheart? When I brought the body into the house and the sunshine hit it, it was plainly obvious that it is purpleheart. The machined parts are definitely greyer and lighter than the darker parts were before I sanded them off. I think the stripes are just slightly darker pieces overall.
Speaking of dark and light and the various PH colour palettes... I sanded the pickup cover and the control cover smooth again this morning, and they were both that soft greyish lavender. I brought the control cover inside with the body, but I put the pickup cover outside in the direct sunlight for several hours. When I put them together again this evening, wow. I think I'll be doing a lot more exposing on these parts in the coming days.
I consider fixing mistakes to be a part of building.

I left the control cover outside even though it's overcast. Hopefully they will get closer to each other so they can darken together. I also attended to all of the shaping and carving of the body and I think I'm almost finished. I took some photos in better light so I can see what needs attention. Here it is sanded to 120 in most areas and filed smooth in a few spots.
Here it is wetted down with water to raise the grain. I'm going to sand it up to 280 before epoxy grain fill.

Thanks kind sir, I was on the fence but it's growing on me. I can see some details that need attention in these pics, and then I'll sand it all up and scrape the edges a little more crisp before the epoxy.
I dunno Beej, I kind dig the difference between them. Makes it looks like you used another species of wood.

Well, I was hoping to spend the day working on this build, but as some know, I work in health care, so thanks to omicron, I'm called back to work. Yesterday was the highest case count of any time in the pandemic and we are already slammed with preparation and action. I literally can't believe the workload facing me for the next two days. First proper update will likely be the 25th, unless I have enough energy tonight to attack this thing.

These days I'm a milquetoast middle manager, but my clinical background is psychology. At work I refer to myself as an "administrivialist". I think my closest comparison would be Colin Robinson, energy vampire from "What We Do In The Shadows".
Honestly though, I'm so very, very sick of viral pathogens.
But hopefully not quite as sick as I have been over the past two days coming up positive for Delta-cron, or whatever the Cool Kids are calling it now. Tested negative on Friday, felt like crap, so I tested again on Saturday and.. Bam! Positive. Thank god I'm fully vaxxed and boosted, I've had worse colds and feel almost back to normal today. Basically a 48 hour Suckfest and then 5 days of quarentine, which is almost worse due to sheer boredom and lack of sawdust fix. I could seriously go for a 5 day quarantine right about now.
Well..... I did watch about 10 different YT videos about tuning up up a bandsaw. Edgy, scintillating drama, im here to tell you. Who's Right! Is it the Snodgrass Method, or the Old School Duginske approach? Should i spend $400 on a complete set of Carter saw blade guides for my ancient Sears 12" Bandsaw ( street value about $250)? No wait! Urethane tire upgrades! The hell with Netflx, I got Nerdflux. This Is Quarentine.
Try running a ShopSmith bandsaw, none of that stuff applies anyways!
I am a fan of urethane tires, I'll give them that one. Plus they tend to be cheaper anyways. But you also forgot to add the $400 worth of setup blocks and squares to make sure you are fully in alignment!
