Haven't put one up yet, promised myself I'd finish the Peavey Frankenstein project before doing anything for the next one other than planning (and buying stuff of course
)
Some pics of the bar mitzvah gig over the weekend with the first Tiger Bass and my two boys!!!
We got some good recordings of the new bass with the BigRigs yesterday - just uploaded to Facebook if you are interested in hearing them...let me know if you need a friend request.
A quick unrehearsed run-through with my brother the other day where you can really hear the detail and presence of the BigRigs.

Laughing! I was quite literally doing some landscape work up until about 15 seconds before we started recording…my brother was on a trumpet we rented him for the weekend, and as soon as we were done we sent him right back home to Boston!

Yeah listening back to the recordings it's an almost startling amount of clarity. Those things will amplify everything good and bad!
A few highlights of Tigerbass #1 at its first gig, and an accompanying photoshoot beforehand.
I really like it! I've found over the last few years since I began adding coil switches and passive tone controls to all my instruments that I tend to adjust them way more than I do anything with the active EQ, which is generally a "set it and forget it" effort for me at this point. Bass and treble about a quarter to halfway up, mids generally flat, pickups equal. I can then manage the overall voice of the instrument with the passive tone control on its own, and I really like how mix slotting can be fine-tuned by switching between series/parallel/single - a technique I never really appreciated until this last batch of basses I've made.
That little fella sure seems to need a bass like Dad's.

Which is why we're planning to start his build next year - he just turned ten, and by the looks of it he's going to grow like a weed soon. A good time to transition from his current short scale 26" to a full 34".
Interestingly, he can actually manage on a 34" now but it's a pretty sizable reach. We brought out my walnut four-string to serve as a backup for both of us and I made him practice with it just in case he needed it.

Having a chance to build his own bass with the help of his dad is a pretty amazing opportunity.
