Winter Build-Off 2023: Twin Tigers!!!

The scarf joint is glued up at this point. I’m using two screws to help with alignment and prevent slipping. Works great!
The headstock veneers are glued up as well, so they can be laminated over the scarf joint once the glue is dry.
Back from my business trip and I’ve got a couple hours before jet lag sets in and I am no longer able to safely use power tools.

I’ve cut out the truss rod cover and now I’ll bandsaw the rest to a trim oversize dimension. Then, prep for glue up to the neck billet.
The whole thing is positioned nicely so I’ll lock it down with clamps and let it set up.

Not a ton of time in the workshop today - tons of yard work after the atmospheric river that has been crashing through California lately! I did manage to do some rough shaping on the back of the headstock so the rear laminate can be glued up prior to shaping and carving the whole thing.
A rainy day again here in the extreme southwestern corner of the country means a good day to go prep the shop for the next sequence in the build. I am at a point now where major machining operations are beginning to transition into more fine detail work, so it’s a good time to hit the reset button, do some OCD decluttering and be able to work neatly and precisely without stuff getting in my way.
And given how unlikely it is that I’ll finish this by the end of the build-off, at least I can compete for a consolation prize of “Most Anally Retentive WorkShop”
Surgery YES!! (that inlay work is not too far removed from what I would imagine my wisdom teeth removal was like!)
Over the years I’ve come to realize how much time I was losing to clutter-related inefficiencies, mistakes and imprecision. Can’t tell you how often I’ve set down a drill bit, or a chuck, or a specialty part - and have it go missing within five minutes of touching the bench amidst tools I haven’t needed in weeks. And how many times I’ve tried to work on a neck with rapidly accumulating piles of crap on either end of the bench, preventing me from being able to lay the whole thing flat on the tabletop. And how many times I’ve looked for a specific kind of screwdriver, couldn’t find it, and did my best with something “kinda sorta close” and wound up stripping off the screw head as a result.

A nice compound radius from 16-20 is applied to the board.
With the board contour nearly complete, it’s time to lay out the side position dots. Everything is measured out and numbered. I’ll double check this tomorrow to make sure I didn’t whiff anything. 
In between everything going on today I managed to get started on side dot Luminlay installation…
For a moment I was wondering why on Earth did you inlay your workbench as well!
