Winter Buildoff 2022: Still A Diva

So today I got a small package (that's what she said) in the mail.
@BishopJP was kind enough to send me a couple Stunning Stains to play around with -

From left to right we have -
  • Green Spirit Based
  • Black Spirit Based
  • Black Water Based
  • Phthalo Blue Water Based
  • Green Water Based
  • Purple Water Based
i haven't decided exactly where I'm going with this just yet, but I know I want to do a burst of sorts. It may be either a Purple-Green burst or a Purple-Blue burst. I'm going to play around and see which one I like the best and we'll go from there. So while I wait on parts to arrive later this week, I'll probably be messing with this some. Stay tuned!

And again, huge thank you to Bishop. This forum continues to be one of the coolest places on the internet. I'm happy to be here, it's literally something I look forward to every day. All of you are so super cool, it never ceases to amaze me how supportive and helpful everyone here is. There's really not enough words.

I see those tints are in bottles purchased from Target, and they have the logo of Target's store brand Up & Up on them. The logo is an arrow pointing diagonally upwards with up & up written on it. Now, turn one of the bottles over. The arrow points down, and the logo now says dn & dn (down and down). Coincidence? Or on purpose? Is this some kind of ying yang feng shui thing?

Also, yeah, this is a pretty awesome place. :D

Small update on this one.
Tune-O-Matic bridge arrived yesterday. Looks like it's gonna work just fine.
Graphtech nut should arrive today, along with my brass rod stock to build string ball end retainers out of.
My RZ Mask also arrives today, so I'm kinda stoked about that.
Luminlay side dots arrived yesterday.

I dyed some scrap pieces black last night, I'll sand them back today and start playing with color dyes hopefully tonight. I still haven't made any more progress on the fretboard radius jig, so I need to get back to that.

WHEN the nut arrives (that's what she said) I'll post a pic of the combined might of all the parts.
My stupid tuners won't be here for at least two more weeks, so we're gonna need to make progress without them for now. But yeah, I'll post a pic as soon as the nut arrives (spose to be today). I need suspense! Nobody will tune in unless it has suspense. Didn't you learn anything from Tiger King?!?!? :roflmao:  :roflmao:

More pictures! Playing with finishes -
These are all the Crimson water based Stunning Stains. First two are just straight color on the flame maple (remember, not super flame-y) -

I was kind of playing with versions of two colors next to each other just to see how they look, or clash. Honestly, I'm digging the purple-green with no black base. I think it just looks more vibrant and I don't know that the flame pops any better with the black base. I do see that I need to learn how to blend them better, it just kind of has this odd line where they meet. This is why we practice on scrap first. ;)
