Of course, I guess there's always the three color burst -

More pictures! Playing with finishes -
These are all the Crimson water based Stunning Stains. First two are just straight color on the flame maple (remember, not super flame-y) -
Green and Purple -

I was kind of playing with versions of two colors next to each other just to see how they look, or clash. Honestly, I'm digging the purple-green with no black base. I think it just looks more vibrant and I don't know that the flame pops any better with the black base. I do see that I need to learn how to blend them better, it just kind of has this odd line where they meet. This is why we practice on scrap first. ;)
Personally I think the blue with no black looks the best. Especially if there's gonna be a reveal of the dark Wenge around the edge. Plus it accentuates the figure in the maple best of the 3

See, the dilemma is, I really want to do a purple bass because purple is my favorite color and I don't own a purple bass. In my mind, I was thinking a purple to blue or purple to green burst. So part of this test was to see what combo clashed and what didn't. I feel like the purple to green is just too much. At the same time, the blue to green screams "Seahwaks", and I HATE the Seahawks! :meh:
The wife has agreed, I think we're going purple to blue with no black undercoat here.

I'm not planning on a wenge reveal, mostly because the purpleheart is directly under the maple. ;)
Plus, I'm gonna jack this all up, throw tradition completely out the window, stomp on it a couple times and then run it over with a truck. We're going REVERSE burst here. Purple in the middle, fading to blue around the edges.

On a good note, the last of my parts has been ordered -
  1. Delano Xtender 4 HE/S pickup (I'm stoked that I managed to find money to get the exact pickup I wanted to put in this, it helps that I only need the one)
  2. Delano Xtender acrylic routing template (because why build one when they literally sell one for $11? )
  3. Recessed barrel jack
  4. 500k Pot for the volume knob.
It should all be here by the end of next week, so it looks like those tuners will be the last part to arrive, some time early next month. But I think we're in good shape here as far as parts go.
I'll be dropping off the brass rod with my brother-in-law next week, and he will machine up my string ball end retainers, so I'm in good shape there too. Kind of cheating on that one by having him make them for me, but hey, he literally works at a machine shop, it's called "using resources". :smug:
So, if all goes well, by the end of next week I should have everything I need except those tuners. I guess I'm running out of excuses. :roflmao:
