Winter NAMM 2015 Updates - Basses

It's so nice to hear such a great tone and a modern slant on a J bass from Fender. It's also very sweet to see a 34" scale 5 string with a great sounding low B. The whole "gotta have a 35 scale" for a tight low B is just fantasy. A good stable and stiff neck is what's needed not a longer scale length.

I suspect that is Mel Brown ( Invalid Link Removed ) playing in the video. Pretty good bassist who I think got started in my local area, Denver. Nice set of hands! I also agree with you on the 34" scale 5s. Got two that have very nice B-strings.

A walnut mikro with black hardware.. quite tempting. Seems Ibanez really is on their P's and Q's this year, very nice.

Ibanez really outdid themselves this year. I'm finding new basses from them that I'm really excited about, including that walnut Mikro... and they're pushing the edge of production basses to a new level. I haven't seen anything from Schecter, Spector, ESP/LTD, Fender, or a few other companies that I'd typically look at for basses that have really made me excited. Schecter's brought their new Stiletto Stealth and Vintage series (P/ MM humbucker, J/ MM humbucker, respectively) and a few guitars this year that are tempting, but nothing beyond that. All in all, for my tastes, a pretty drab year from what I've found so far.

Spector has their new CT-B's, which I find interesting...and it's SHORT SCALE!!! :) And I'm happy to see that they're offering neckthrough Legend series. They only have them in 4/5-strings, but it's a start.

I was planning on ordering a new BTB single cut this week if there were no NAMM show surprises from ibanez, but they've had me rethinking that haha. I saw that the expected shipping date isn't until april for the fanned frets so I think i'm gonna go ahead and place my order :roflmao:

Digging that fanned fret ibby. Except...the brown neck wood at the joint. And the silver switches. Everything else is cosmo black. And kinda wish they were using the nordstrands on that one.

+1 to everything you stated... Still, I almost feel the urge to go into a store today and begin the ordering process. I'm sure it's priced really well, maybe under 1k, and adding Nordie's to it would still make it worthwhile IMO. I may also dye the brown-orange joint and switch out the switches for black ones... I may even add a 4-band EQ (ala Audere or Mike Pope) as well.

Also, I was concerned with the scale length, but comparing it's photo to a normal parallel fret SR, it looks like the neck may very well be the same length (or reasonably close to), they just pushed the bridge pretty far back to get the 35.5" scale on the B string:

I'll be appearing at the Monster Cable Booth on Saturday, at 1 pm, as part of the cast of HIRED GUN; a new documentary about hired gun musicians. I'll be doing a meet and greet with fellow bassists Rudy Sarzo and David Ellefson, as well as a bunch of guitarists and drummers. COME SAY HI!

Dude! Checked your project history. You played with Filter?

Some Pedullla basses.

But no new fretless models? I was hoping for a Portamento in a 6'er... Oh well, I guess it can wait until after the purchase of all of the above... My wife is going to be PISSED!
The Adam Nitti bass and the P/J SR756 looks awesome!

I checked out the Ibanez link to look at the model names/numbers. I am pleasantly surprised the pictured P/J is a SR756 (saw price online $699.99). There's a P/G SR656 too (799.99). I am curious about the price of the Adam Nitti model.

There's even a cool looking GSR206SM:

Are you there now? Can you please go check out the Ibanez SR Fanned Fret for me and see how long the neck is compared to a typical 34" scale SR? This would be HUGELY appreciated!
Unfortunately no, I was not able to attend. These were posted on the respective builder's Facebook pages.
