Winter NAMM 2018 (ultra Pic-heavy)

I have no knowledge of NAMM itself, having never attended one, but have their space/booth rental rates skyrocketed each year? Gibson chose to debut their new instruments at CES instead of NAMM this year.

I don't believe so. In fact, there have definitely been individual years in the past 10 years where the overall attendance dropped. That being said, it appears to be on an upswing over the past several years. Though I hesitate to use the phrase "skyrocketted."

Gibson is showing a remarkable flexibility in finding ways to shoot itself in the foot, multiple times. This may be one of them.

On to Rickenbacker:

I go hunting for someone to ask about the 5-string, and I find this guy! Instead of kicking me out this year, he accepted my offering of carrots. This 5-string is wider at the nut than their previous version. It comes in natural and a very sexy matte black. Check out those crazy new pickups, too.

The walnut five string Rickenbacker checks sooooo many boxes for me. As soon as I pay off the midnight blue 4003S that I have on lay away I need to order one.

I thought about that, but then considered something else. NAMM will be flooded with news from all manufacturers during that weekend. It is easy to be overshadowed by all the news coming out at once. CES was about 2 weeks before NAMM, which allowed them to have all the news attention as it relates to music instrument manufacturers.

Fair enough but....

This lowly punter had no idea that CES was on and is still completely unaware of any new Gibson bass goodies....

Assuming there are some?....

True. I enjoy Gibson guitars, but for some reason none of their bases appealed to me as much. I sort of like the G3 and the Japanese-made Q-80 but not enough to seek them out.

I'm
NAMM officially starts tomorrow, but I got in early to get ready and hang out and meet people. My thanks once again to Mike Lull and @TonyP- for getting me in this year.

So, there was a little get together at the UVA Bar in Downtown Disney. Among the suspects:

And I met Nalani.

She was totally down to earth, and ready to talk music, bass, and life.

It was great to see Cliff, and I'm going to see him again in a couple of weeks because he'll be playing in Vegas.

So that's it for tonight. I need to get some sleep so I can get ready for tomorrow. LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!

Thanks again for posting pics. :bassist::hyper:drool
