WR: Details, we need details! ....
I knew the number "969" was coming up soon and since I graduated from high school in 1969, I was getting really curious as to what model, number of strings, and woods it would have. I thought about emailing you for a custom but given the economy and all that, just decided to put out my intention and if it came to pass, #969 would be coming my way. So, I "wished" for a hyper five string of indetermined but sturdy wood.
Steve you rascal!!!!!
A Hipper =wr=
I think you'll like it...the h[xx]per balances very nicely, both tonally and physically.
Can't wait to see your results, I'm still on the fence as to which finish to choose. I may do one in Tung and one in TruOil. Or...?
FedEx page says package is on the truck for delivery, I'm starting to feel better already!

standupright, that Lobe you've got coming looks way cool. I'm half-a$$edly trying to be productive while waiting with little to show for output.
At least it is Friday!

A Hipper (formally known as Hyper, check Steve's website) five string, sapele/luan/sapele wings, sapele/purpleheart/maple/purpleheart/sapele neck, goncalvo alves fingerboard. My speeling is always suspect.
If I've got it right sapele and luan are often called African and Filipino Mahoganies respectively. Except for the fingerboard, the woods are the same as my #946 Fantasy. Not the most wildly figured woods, still handsome with nice tone.
As I wrote Steve W.:
Saw that I was the 11th viewer and did not hesitate. Got my fingers crossed for a reasonable build! It will be fun no matter what.

yeah...lucky for me i work from home....i've already got my amp out, plugged in ready and waiting for the arrival.....i'm either gonna love it or hate it.....i currently play on flats, and this one was already strung with rounds, so, i might have to do a string swap or replacement. i'm not really a big fan of rounds, so i'll see when it gets here....the only thing i'm slightly concerned with is the string spacing....
good luck with yours!
waverider.......when did you buy yours?
"The rounds are OK and if I remember my reading correctly, are supposed to enhance that mwahh sound. My Fantasy initially had so many overtones that I kept checking the amp to see if the chorus was on. Other folks have switched to flats and will have better feedback."
- The thing about rounds I have discovered is that they scratch up (or can) your FB. The FB's I have releveled and refinished where the rounds were left on for any length of time, had scarring on them from those strings. Mind you, it is not deep or anything, but if after only a few months this is showing up - after a lot more play time it could make a difference. Plus, they are so noisy in comparison (I think).
I did have half-wounds on my maple Lobe and that was kind of a nice compromise between round and flat while still maintaining the smoothness that fretless FBs seem to need. (I have not put those back on something else to date)
Let us know where you end up ...
