Why wouldn't you tung oil the fretboard as well?? Tung oil wouldn't affect the sound would it?? I know that the urethane would.

I think your Wishbass Club Member No. is the serial number of your bass... You can choose between two...
Here is something cool...I just talked to Wish...since I am refinishing both basses I asked if he could make me control covers out of the same woods (walnut and maple) to replace the aluminum ones. He said they'd be here in a week for $25. Not bad, not bad at all. I guess all you gotta do is ask. I will post the pics when they are installed and we can see what we think.

Here's a review of a used one I played a few weeks back at a local shop. I should have posted it here, in the first place:
A used 5 string wishbass EUB (Electric Upright Bass) at a shop in Chicago. Not sure about the year, but it did have the Wishbass decal on the back.
I realize we have an EUB forum, but the wishbass interest seems to be over here, and this would be laughed right out of there real quick....
Pro's:
-Cheap (600 bucks)
-basic, but pretty wood
-Nice slim upright like shilouette
-Good tone, I like the sound (very woody).
-Very Unique
-Seemed incredibly sturdy
-42" Neck seemed quite strait and even
Cons
-String spacing correct between E and B, but way to wide between all the other strings
-fingerboard curved like an upright, and would be fine for arco, but the body (the cutout is too low on the body) prevents you from using a bow on any but one or two middle strings. Why on earth did he go to the effort of making a curved fingerboard and then fail to place the cutaways in such a way as to allow bowing!?!?
-HUGE neck. Absolutely Ginormous. Dwarfs the neck on my upright.
-Uses a P pickup for each string. This contributes to the way to wide spacing, but even still, there is too much pickup space, some of the strings don't have even volume because they are not centered over the pickup.
-Rough finish and edges. A few places where the gluing was not perfect or complete, but nothing that seemed to indicate a danger to the structure of the instrument. The rounding on the body sides is not even at all.
-uses fender style tuners. Really needs some heavier tuning machines. It was very hard to tune.
- Stand appears to be the bottom of a guitar stand that sticks into a hole in the bottom of the bass, with a wingnut for height adjustment. It only stands strait up, no angling at all. thus, it cannot be played in proper upright position
All in all, If it was 400 bucks I would strongly consider buying it as a project bass. I would have to refinish it, reposition the pickups, cutaway more of the body for arco playing, shave down the neck, mount it on a better stand, and then I would probably have a good sounding, fun to play instrument.
The overall folksy build quality would probably work fine on a 4 string frettless electric, but it seems like Mister Wishnevsky may have overextended himself (or not put in enough thought and effort) in trying to make a 42" bowable 5 string EUB.
If anybody else wants to check it out it's at "Music Shop" in Chicago on Irving Park, just west of Kedzie. I will not be purchasing it, but it was worth the trip to finally experience a Wishbass.

Ambrosia Top, Walnut Back, Purpleheart fingerboard.
Ordered Nov 15, Received March 2nd.
Intially told me two months, but said his gear was breaking down in late Jan.
PROS -
Love the shape of the body.
Feels very light (doesn't feel like it's 8.8 lbs.)
Love the sound of the Kent Armstrong pick up and the tone knob was definately worth the extra $10.
CONS -
The finish sucks, as do most of his finish jobs
(what was I thinking not having him send it unfinished?!)
Ambrosia wood has some wormholes in it - the usual cosmetic stuff on a wishbass. Might decide to refinish it someday.
Splitting on the lower horn (says he'll fix it it gets any worse).
Busted the g-string tuning it up the first time (might be something wrong with the nut - but could've been a bad string, too.) I have some flatwounds on order.
So, if I did it again, I'd go with a different top wood, and have him send it with no finish - then I'd put on a Tru Oil finish.

I'd say do a refinish eventually, you have one of the best looking wishbasses i've seen yet.

How easy it is to get at the tone control? The Tone and Volume look so close together.
Easy enough. I have two custom knobs on order made of a similar wood to the top. They're 3/4" knobs so they're smaller than the speed knobs that WIsh uses. I'm also gonna have him make some wood control plates to replace those aluminum ones - for my othere two wishbasses

Hey, you never know...enough of us get them and he may start using them full time.
BTW..Got ten coats of high gloss tung oil on my lobe right now. I may just finish the bottle. I don't think I will even need to buff this thing when it is done. Truly a spectacle.
Now I got this new hyper in a trade and gotta put a plan together for it. Maybe some dark resin on the edges and then the oil. dunno I guess we shall see.

I threw some TI flats on it, actually just the high four strings of an old six string set. Sounds pretty woody. Of course the strings are way slinky and about 2 years old now, so that may account for some of it.
Not as much of the mwah with the rounds on it as I was expecting, much much punchier than most wishes I have owned/played.
At one point I had 3 then none, now two. And after seeing Gub's scroll I may need to make a phone call here shortly.
Anyone know when wish modded his headstock design. My older ones looked like hollowed out 2x4s now they are sleak and somewhat contoured. I dig em.
