Hey Gubna, this is Sid, the guy you bought your first Wishbass from. So how do you like the difference between your new one and the one you bought from me with the Quarter Pounder pickup? Can you hear much of a difference? I like the Lobe design (above) but it threw me a little with that upper body section attached so high up the neck, how do you like it?
I have not had time enough to play them both to give a good answer on that. I do think that the pick up in the lobe is adequate and probably won't swap it out - at least for now. I put some flatwounds on it and like it alot, but as far as a comparison- I'm not sure. I think they're both really cool. Now I just have to get good playing fretless - a totally new thing for me. I'm gonna get some tapewounds for the other one. I would say this, I probably would not have bought the one from you if I had seen the Lobe first. But I think that it might also not be the last one I purchase.

I just ordered a Lobe fretless. I already have a JK fretted that I use every weekend and I love it (as does the soundman). My only problem with the JK was a bit of a neck dip, I think due to the lower mass of the body. I did fix that, but I don't want to do that fix-up again. I'm hoping the Lobe, by having a larger body mass and the upper bout being higher on the neck, I won't have a balance issue.BassDudeSA said:

After owning ten Wishbasses in total I had never had a neckdive problem with any. The Lobe was fine, but (at least for me) I was visually thrown off by the long upper bout as I wasn't used to seeing the neck attached to the body all the way up to about the 9th fret position. I custom ordered it. I also custom ordered the JK fretted. I wanted to do the finishing myself, I asked him not to put any markers on the neck. I read your post about that and it makes sense to me to mark them myself. Also, I really like the control plate rear mounted.BassDudeSA said:
As far as the markers being off, I'm surprised.. but so many people have made that comment it must be true. My fretted bass is very intune. Intonating the bass with one piece bridge is a pain to be sure, but once that's in place and the open strings are in tune with the octave, the frets are dead on in tune up to about fret 17, then they get a tad sharp. But I don't play that high so its totally a non-issue with me.
Some people probably will think me odd for this, but I really like the look of the Wishbasses and trust Steve's taste in wood... so when I custom order, I just asked for dark wood and let him make the choice. My JK came with Wenge front, back and fretboard, maple inbetween with Walnut stringers. I don't know what he'll pick, but I know it will be beautiful.
I like the unique-ness of his work, his choice of woods and the sound and playability of his basses. My JK is very comfortable, and the sound man we work with every weekend told me never to bring another bass (I've used my BC Rich Eagle with EMG's, and a '76 Rickenbacker). As for the people who would say, "you ordered a bass and don't even know what wood is going to be used?" I'd just answer that I trust Steve, and love random things in live. (blame it on early exposure to John Cage's music!)

Hey, and by the way, now listening to the pickups, I can tell a difference, but I think the lobe one with EMG select is seated high enough for it to sound good.
I may yet have a custom one built with frets.
I was thinking of an ebony, purpleheart or rosewood fingerboard, probably the lobe style - and maybe a walnut body. Active soapbar.
Anyone on here have a wishbass with Steve's active pickups? Are they good, or would you suggest something else?

One of these days I will also custom order a Wishbass with frets as well. A 5-string. All I have had are 4-string fretless, and I really only play fretless rarely anyway. It turns out the the Scarab design is my Wishbass of choice, but the actual look of the wood makes a huge impact on how much I like the look. I'm glad to see that there are a few more Wish-fanatics budding out there.
How much do scarabs cost? I might be interested in getting an Extended version, just to try erb out. I saw they made that 11 stringer, is the string really crooked? How do these things sound. I wouldn't mind an erb scarab.

Gubna, yeah I really should not have bought it as I have been cutting down on buying, but I am a total Scarab fanatic and this was one of the best I had seen. However, my least favorite Scarab (judging by looks only) is the Walnut Scarab that I posted a few pages back. It is really nice, reminds me kind of bat wings, but I'm not a big fan of the really dark toned woods. That one I would be willing to sell if you (or anybody) wants to try one of these. However I did place "dots" in the correct position on the E string side of the neck on that bass. They could be lightly sanded off though. I'm also going to sell my Walnut "Swirl" model since that doesn't fit into my Scarab collection. So buy one, sell two, I guess that works.
Yeah, I might be interested, but I really liked that one. Can't say I should be buying anymore basses till next year anyway...

Sometimes I think it just looks awesome, other times I think it looks sorta' ugly. So I'm hot and cold on this one.

got it about 4 years ago. it sounds great, the only problem is with the pup route and the bridge.
the E string wore a little into the bridge, due to that it now bottoms out on the pup. gonna go in with a dremell and make the pup route a little deeper.
Once I figure out ow to attache it, it will.
