Without BSO, Where Do We Get Strings Now?

Ahh gotcha. During a normal summer, I can kill a set of rounds in one weekend of gigs. Which is Thursday-Sunday. Each gig 3-4 hours.

Do they have the same feel and basic tone as the flats??
I honestly haven't played the flats in years. The rounds have the same springy suppleness. And they feel very smooth to the touch for rounds.

Generally I agree with you, however here in New Zealand the range is so poor I find buying is the only way to get what I want.

I'm very fortunate to live in "Music City" where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a musician or a music store. We have some great local shops with some fantastic people running them.

If you have a local music store near you it's always a good idea to do some business with them. They may not be the cheapest, but I like support small locally owned music stores when I can.
I typically think this way. But my only local music store has OUTRAGEOUS prices. $50+ for a set of basic Ernie balls.

I go through a lot of strings. I've been using their bulk bass strings. You have to buy 6 of each gauge but it comes our to about $10 per set on the 4 string & about $15 per set on the 5. They go on sale periodically & I buy enough to make it to the next sale date. I've been using their nickel wound strings. They offer a stainless variey as well.

I used to use stainless strings, either D' Addario Pro Steels or DR High Beams but I've found they dig into my frets a little more than I'd like. No matter what style strings I use, they lose their zing pretty quickly.
