Well I wish you weren't gone!
Elon Musk is right down the road from me, maybe I could go talk to him about an investment opportunity to keep BSO from closing!![]()
So I guess right now you are really only halfway gone!
The last email I sent to users in my list states closing for now.... Etc....
I believe that most people on Talkbass think that you are closing permanently, not temporarily. That is why this thread exists!
also you might try this Link Removed (just stumbled upon this vendor in TalkBass Classifieds TB Bazaar...)Anyone know where to get Dingwall strings now?
Thanks. Unfortunately you have to buy two sets at $54.also you might try this Link Removed (just stumbled upon this vendor in TalkBass Classifieds TB Bazaar...)
Oh, I agree that politics are important- I did grow up as a teen in the 80's around and/or with bands like Dead Kennedys and Black Flag (later Rollins Band), as well as news outlets (back when they actually reported NEWS and not just "catch the ratings with sensationalist headlines") like BBC and CTV/CBC News, CNN, ad nausea...That’s the way a tariff works.
Because it’s a tax on exports as well as imports, American steel is now more expensive everywhere in the world except America. Even if Roto doesn’t use American steel to make their strings (in which case the reason it would cost more to make them would be obvious) American steel has now effectively been removed from the global supply/demand equation - in other words there has been a net decrease in world supply.
For the purpose of setting prices, a decrease in supply is functionally equivalent to an increase in demand, so steel manufacturers in EVERY country (including in the UK) have been able to raise their prices accordingly.
While I understand not wanting to get a political lecture when trying to buy bass strings, the facts are the facts. This is why politics are important - they touch every facet of our lives, even if we would prefer they didn’t (and even when we pretend they don’t).
In this case, this tax was very specifically instituted by a single person, against the wishes and advice of his closest advisors, his party, and every respected economist in the world. So to suggest laying the blame where it belongs isn’t so much “political” as it is “accurate.”
Full disclosure - I support the tariff.

So sad that in this day, when politicians are SUPPOSED to be working "for the people" as elected "by the people" (sounds familiar, doesn't it?), that we, MUSICIANS who extol the virtue of happiness and awareness by music, are drawn unwittingly into this mire that is the political equivalent these days of "whose is bigger"...
Peace, and May The Bass Be With You!
Amazon or Sweetwater. Amazon great because twin packs are usually less expensive than SW by $3-$5. Absolutely no one hcan provide customer service like Sweetwater, but when strings are "Prime," no one beats the speed of Amazon. IMO BSO is a bit pricy for quality strings.
Choose wisely.
You do not list GHS Bass Boomers, Round wound, Medium, Long scale (Exact same as "flea Signature which is out-of-stock/unavailable) twin packs. What sets were more than somewhere else?
How weird are we talking there my friend?![]()
Any of the odder Labella sets mainly! That and lots of single strings. Hard to find a Funkmaster-esque gauge in Flats!

So you’d rather save $1.50 per set of strings rather than supporting a place like Sweetwater that does a lot to support musicians, or support one of our very own? F*** Amazon.Amazon or Sweetwater.
