Rampant speculation on my part...

I'm having trouble finding it, but I thought a recent announcement said something exciting was coming to the Beat Buddy website soon? Could this be it?

Hey sillyfabe, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to optimistic, if for no one else then for myself. That might come across as being an apologist at times, but it's just how I'm approaching things. However, I don't remember June ever being one of the dates FWIW. The official story from Beat Buddy, as I understand it, is that one component was unexpectedly unavailable, which gave us the April to July slip. But they got that component sorted out and are on track for July, even though we're a week in and haven't heard anything about official shipping dates. As for the software, I'm sure the intent was to have it out early, but honestly, as long as it's available around the time things start shipping, I don't have much of an issue with that.

We'll see. I'm antsy already, to be sure, but I give it another 7-10 days before I feel like I will be justified in worrying/complaining.

It takes an average of 11 days to ship products from China to the US West Coast, plus about 4 days in customs. Presuming the pedals still need packaging and that shipment will probably occur from company headquarters in Florida, that's another week at least. Then there's time for packaging and shipping to us. My bet is they'll start arriving in our mail boxes around mid-August, maybe September if there are snags.

I really hope thats not the case becasue thats the MAIN resaon I became an early supporter: to get the product early as promised. So far if I don't get it by this month (or at least some sort of compensation) then they have lost me as a steady customer. I understand snags but I also understand I gave them my money with an original promise of April then July.......

Too lazy to Google: what are those? I presume they are regulating government organizations, which countries are they for?

That's fair. I ordered as early as possible simply for the best price. The way I'm looking at it is more or less this: stuff happens. I will understand up to one major (which they had with the April to July slip based on part availability) and one minor slip (miscellaneous) in the shipping date. I really, really, really want it in July. Early-to-mid August I can live with. Anything later I think there's a problem. It won't necessarily affect how I feel about the company---launching is the hardest part, you know? I would like to see how they launch the software, etc. That will determine how I feel about the company longer-term. What happens when they have their feet under them. Then again, once I have my Beat Buddy, why do they need me as a customer? Paying for additional content? Just wondering.

After watching this I'm a bit worried about the software.... looks ... unfinished.



I was expecting something like garageband or what not. What I'm seeing here is that I'll need to use something else (garageband on my mac?), export tons of parts then import them in the app. Do we know if the software runs on a mac?

That demo is from a while ago I think. I hope that was just their current beta.

I have a question about presentation. How do any of you anticipate presenting the pedal output; through the PA or through a second channel of your amp? I originally was thinking PA as I am presently using my drum machine but the pedal aspect makes me think it would be nice from a groove perspective to have both bass and drums through my rig.

UL is definitely nongovernmental - they're basically funded by insurance companies.
They certify a bunch of stuff, but mostly it's safety-related stuff (e.g. smoke detectors) and electrical appliances.
If the product is not claimed to perform a safety function and doesn't plug into your wall - and has no external plastic materials (BB has a metal case, which I expect also helps it with FCC regs) UL doesn't seem to have a cetegory for it.

CE is European, where I'm not. My Italian-made MarkBass pedals have CE marks, as does a newer ElectroHarmonix pedal, which also has a FCC sticker. None of my other pedals have anything, although only the DarkGlass could be considered 'newish.' It shows no stamps or stickers that I can identify...

(1) I already said I was being too lazy to Google
(2) 2 and 3 letter acronyms make for terrible Googling anyway (otherwise perhaps I wouldn't have been inclined to be so lazy)
(3) "Yes" or "no" would have been faster than your response and made everyone happy
(4) If you're going to complain that I'm not doing my due diligence, you can at least go with a Link Removed link. For the humor.
(5) So I did Google them this time and didn't totally get my question answered. Based on what I saw so far, CE is European, CSA is Canadian, ETL is US/Canadian, and UL is unclear.

I actually hadn't thought that far ahead ;-)
_probably_ into the (otherwise unused) 'Active' input on the amp head, and again probably through a passive mixer because my amp does not have separate channel gains - the passive mixer would let me throttle the level back.

Otherwise, if it's in the effects chain with the amp, I'm not sure how that would work. After the DI but otherwise at the end of the chain I suppose. I have no PA. I do have a spare Fender guitar amp I could use for this purpose, I guess...
