Worlds First Drum Machine in Pedal Form!

Well...this is bittersweet, I was really hoping US tracking numbers would come today like the e-mail said, and the fact that these are the first few international tracking numbers probably means there's still a few days to go for the US (per the last e-mail update). HOWEVER, I am stoked for you guys.

That "glass half-empty" philosophy catching on? ;)
At least we got some confirmations before our troll woke up! :D

(a) Only regarding the micro-issue of whether or not I will get a tracking number today.
(b) I couldn't be more thrilled with the second part of your post.

I was really looking forward to the software and website for sharing/selling tracks being released prior to the pedals as I have no desire to program complete songs. I would be happy to purchase songs rather than create them, but it looks like there will not be any content available.

Disappointing.

While I agree it's disappointing on some level, there still are 200 songs loaded in the Beat Buddy...hard to imagine there would have been a ton of additional content before people actually had the units in their hands...

'Is' is not 'will.'
I expect all that stuff is coming.
I suspect David & crew may not have known what they were getting into what with the entire team spending weeks in China tiger-teaming the first production runs - during which probably the software group was running open-loop.

And now they've got a bazillion boxes to post to eager fans worldwide.
So what I expect will happen next is that David and the management team starts cracking the whip on the software development team getting them off the dime and into release.

Just from what I've seen, I think the functionality built into the box will let you select a time signature, a drumset, a verse bar count and a chorus count, and it should be pretty easy to cut and paste the parts together to make workable songs with only what comes in the box. I like that you -can- program beats, and add external content various ways - but I think it's going to be pretty far along with just what you get on Day One.

I don't think they are "songs" in that sense (i.e., replications of existing songs). They are verse-chorus-fill patterns. In different styles, time signatures, etc. So you have a lot of content to play with out of the box, even if it's not personalized to what you want.

Yes. I agree with what your saying. It would be nice to see a descriptive list of those 200 patterns.

I may be lazy/uninterested when it comes to personalized midi programming, but I do want to download specific song patterns that I would just have to use the pedals to activate the different parts. That would be very satisfying and fun!

What are those 200 songs?

I am interested in well known rock & roll songs, mainly. Is the website going to offer a wide selection of popular, accurate to the original, songs for sale?

I think you want an iPod (/cassette player).

....I'm just kidding!

I'm sure if there is decent forum infrastructure getting well-known songs (patterns) wont be an issue. As it happens, I think this HAS to come from the community, not BB, because otherwise it's a breach of copyright.

Any of you guys use iRealPro (previously iRealBook/iRealb)? Same kind of deal - it's a "player/reader" app, which has no "songs", but the community has charts for every song under the sun, and the app has a link directly to the forums.

I'd like to see similar forum/community integration in the BB software. Not necessary at all in V1.0, but just a huge potential area available for future development.

Yeah, but shouldn't that thread be started now ... someone has hands-on already.

I thought that was still a promotional unit? Anyhow, I still think it would be a good idea. If I get mine before anyone starts a new thread I'm going to do that and link here.

My good deed for the day :) ...

Found this the other day. They need to be imported to some sort of DAW (and then the drum track exported) if you want to use them, but just about all of these have drumtracks that certainly aren't steller, but IMO decent enough for an acoustic bar gig. Absolutely good enough for practicing with oneself. There's a pretty extensive library of tunes also. Use the search function.

I thought the idea was to separate real experience of the pedal from speculation ... in which case the fact it was a promotional item doesn't really matter ?
I would _love_ to believe that promotional sample products sent to long-lead press and influential buyers are standard production units taken from the line. But I can't say I believe that 100%.

If you were going to send a product to, say, BassPlayer magazine for review, would you take your chances with production-line statistics, or would you make sure it was a -really good- unit?

I _really_ appreciate hasbeen's evaluation - but until I see paid-customer impressions, I still retain a certain grain of salt. And of course, it's completely possible that the eval units in circulation _are_ standard production line units - I'm not saying they're not, in this case...
