If you're using the VMT by itself (and not stacking it with another OD pedal)...you might(?) find too much loss of low end when engaged. The Mojo Mojo is a very good value (quiet operating) pedal, which allows you to add back some low end to the tone (with the bass knob)...so it might work better in a single OD pedal situation. That said, I don't use one because...it's not the "tone in my head"...;)

I currently use a Damnation Audio MBD-1>Darkglass Alpha Omicron...the MBD-1 (always on OD) has plenty of thick low end, while my AOm (dialed for more top end sparkle) is engaged, when a song calls for it. MBD-1 isn't going anywhere...AOm, is always subject to change...:D

Thanks for the advice. I don't really want to go into the rabbit hole and am amazed by the sheer amount of pedals some people have. On Sunday I went TU-3 - CE-5 - M81 and even then only used chorus on one song (in fact, the first time I've used it in worship full stop). I wasn't sure if I liked the chorus sound or not during practice but used it during a mellow No Longer Slaves anyway during the service, at which point I think it probably got lost in the mix anyway.

I am not really interested in stacking. Fair enough for people who play a lot in a variety of settings who really get to know what OD pedals work well stacked, but for me playing once every few weeks (with a practice too) and then only fiddling about at home, I need an OD that works well alone. I am sure these are 'famous last words' but I don't really want to go beyond a Nano or at a push, a Nano + size board, so the concept of having 2 OD pedals is not something I want to entertain right now.

Any other thoughts on single pedal mild OD for worship?

Thanks Trevor. I had a BSF for a very short time. I realise now that I didn't actually try it in worship, only at home. I'm not sure what my problem was with it. Perhaps the deluge of negative comments online (I know, who cares if it works for you), or the popping noise when using the footswitch, or the annoyance of having to use a screwdriver to access the battery as I didn't have a power supply at the time. Anyway, I sold it too quickly really considering I hadn't even tried it out in a worship context. I may try one again.

I do like the fact that it's deliberately NOT a fuzz and that even with everything maxxed out that it's still essentially an overdrive pedal and NOT a distortion pedal. Many take that as a serious weakness in the pedal (and seems to be behind a lot of the dissing I have read online). I take it as a fundamental strength. Others have complained

I've only ever had switch noise from mine when there was some sort of earthing weakness somewhere else in the signal chain, though maybe the fact that I've always used it with an isolated power supply also helped. The other OD pedal which I was considering was a Bearfoot Blueberry Bass OD which also got a great rep for a low gain OD tone for bass. However the fact that 1) most folk said the original Bearfoot Bb B OD was much superior to the later Mad Professor version, 2) you can't get the Bearfoot version for love nor money in the UK, 3) the MP Bb B OD is almost twice the price of the Bass Soul Food in the UK, 4) the Bb OD doesn't have a blend knob, and 5) I liked the sound of the BSF when I tried it in the shop... all swung it in the favour if the EHX pedal. Never actually tried a Blueberry in the end. Another one to think about checking out, though. I think that the UK price has come down a bit since I was looking. A quick Google shows that Andertons has them for £109 in their sale... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] vs £86 for the EHX BSF.

Here's my board. I'm using the Iconoclast to essentially clone a 3Sigma Audio SVT 8x10 impulse response, and I can tweak it based on the room which is really nice!

Right now the Iconoclast, Polytune Mini, and Neunaber Echelon (using for chorus not delay) migrate between my bass and guitar board depending on what I'm playing that week. I'm looking to pick up an Inspire from Neunaber, and possibly a second Iconoclast and Polytune Mini if I can justify the expense (it's annoying to move them back and forth but I'm not sure it's $300 worth of frustration lol).

Work in progress. Right now the Reverb and Echo pedals are in the loop. I'm not that experienced with pedal-chain order, and I've been using what works. I could easily swap out Anadime Chorus or B3K, and put them in the loop instead. For instance, I had been using compression at the front, and just switched it to the end. It seems to work better there.

@vivaknoxvegas, I may have misinterpreted which board you were asking about - Big or Small. Same principal... my ignorance and trial and error. I just sold the B3k v1 on my small board (I have a v2 on the other), and will soon list the HoF (locally at first). I really don't know what I want on the small pedalboard, but I have two open slot-spaces that I can work with. I'm so smitten by the OmniCabSim that I may spring for a second. That would fill the small PB nicely.

So, after years and years and a ton of money trying to figure out what I wanted only to realise that I wanted it ALL... I finally succumbed to the dreaded MultiFX setup... I traded in most of what I had to get a 2nd hand BOSS GT-10B. I kept the TU-2 cos it works and I kept the Carl Martin Comp/Limiter cos there is nothing else that I have ever used (or can afford) that comes even vaguely close to this (and cos I really do love how it sounds).
The GT-10B is a monstr to figure out - well, for me it has been - and coupled with the silly season we've all just goen through, work, and trying to not be alone in my music room, it's been a bit of a slog finding out what works (a lot) and what doesn't (an awful lot)...

I started with my base sound, which is on every bank's patch #1 - and then it's just adding little nuances (so glad there are no drummers here who wouldn't understand that) to each patch. There is sooooooo much to learn and use.

WRT worship playing, of course there is that need to subtlety (still no drummers?) and being careful not to have a gazillion things going on. I am enjoying the "defretter" in some of the slower material - being able to use those long, languid notes to create something of a vibe!.

Anyhoo... it's on a Trailer Trash board (which I got through a trade on my PT) which is HUGE!!!! I want to look into a custom board when I have the money (so probably never)....

Thanks. Yeah I see the Bearfoot Blueberry get a lot of love, but as you say not easy to get hold of in the UK. Same goes for the Southampton Fifth Gear. One I'd love to try if a used one comes up over here. In the meantime I have just received a used TC Mojo Mojo overdrive pedal, so looking forward to trying this out. Think it can do overdrive AND fuzz. Who knows, I may try a BSF again someday. Used ones come up all the time on Basschat here anyway.

The DBBLOX is probably the smallest passive direct box you'll find. The All Things Equal is a boost/buffer from Southhampton Pedals. It's always on and the footswitch switches between two channels (Red and Blue) with their own boost level. You can use it to level out two guitars, or as a boost pedal which is what I do. If you flip the switch to Dirty, you get the dirt circuit from their Fifth Gear overdrive pedal. Inside the pedal is a gain switch for the amount of overdrive. Pretty cool pedal.

This is on our list for tomorrow. I'm playing on a Squier VMP5, with a felt pick, all on the B string (only), for this tune. Using the Markbass Compressore, and Darkglass Vintage Microtubes for some light overdrive ...
