Worship Bass Pedalboards

Best live tone I think I've ever gotten tonight. I replaced the OC-2 and the Meatbox with the MXR and I'm happy with the results so far. The OC-2 is problematic in the chain, and the Meatbox is dialed back pretty far, and the MXR can get both sounds with one setting. I'm stoked!!

I keep seeing that MXR octave pedal on worship pedalboards. How are you utilizing that? Are you basically just using it to comp a 5-string sound, or for other purposes? I play a 5-string, but have a TC Sub 'n Up and have struggled to find a place to use it in a worship setting. I never dial in the 2nd sub octave, but I find the first octave to be too "subby" and to lack definition, and I never play anything below the D string or it turns to fart mush. Granted, I bought it to use for an 80's band that never happened, not to use in church, but I keep seeing the mxr on the worship boards and I'm wondering how people use it.

I do use it as a 5 string substitute sometimes, but I primarily use octaver for synth sounds with the dry signal off. Thats for Elevation kind of basslines. I have occasionally used the dry signal for a Stevie Wonder / Bernie Worell type lines, especially if it has a gospel vibe. And the MXR has more gain so it works pretty good for a Meatbox type sound - full, deep, long tones. So far so good.

That makes sense. I may have to try one out. I find the sub of the TC to be way too void and formless sounding, for lack of a better descriptor, to ever use it with just the octave and no dry signal.

Like @Rayjay, I use an octaver as part of a synth-type sound. I started with a Sub n Up, and didn't keep it long...was hard to find a lot of usable sounds, for my taste.

Currently using two octavers...
• 3Leaf Octabvre Mini
• Broughton Synth Voice

I've been a/b'ing extensively, and found I like both too much atm, to leave either off my board. They sound quite different, but they both mix well with a filter, chorus, and some dirt.

Have not tried the MXR though...

Personally I'm having a hard time warming up to the Octabvre. I even had Spencer mod it for me. It gets really close to the OC-2, but there's some unpleasant overtones and not enough fundamental to my ear. It probably sounds fine in the mains but my IEMs make me feel like it's just a bit short of usable. The OC-2 is just such a great tone, and I have 2. But both have consequences in my signal chain. I wish I could get used to it, but, you know OCD and what not...LOL.

Derrick Hodge recommended the MXR to me. He replaced his Aguliar with it and was raving about it. Darryl Anders recommended it to Derrick. I'm digging it.

Between the two I have, my fav tones are coming from the Synth Voice, but it doesn't do the OC-2/Mutron thing, and I still like my O-Mini, to cover that... From what you're saying though, I'll have to go listen to some clips of the MXR. ;)
