Worship Bass Pedalboards

I completely agree for the need for limiters. Two weeks ago when I last played at church, there were three loud issues that came through the Aviom system but I had my Tasty Blender with its adjustable limiters and did not hear any of that noise. The drummer on the other hand quickly ripped off his headphones at least once due to the sudden noise.

You know, in the past I could sympathize with your drummer, now I can empathize.

Alright Jesus pedal fam I need some preamp help. As mentioned in a previous post I ordered a darkglass vintage deluxe and while the drive sounded great I found it being a little too much going on for my liking so I sent it back (I like simplicity. Too many knobs and switches me no like). It worked out because I also had some unexpected car expenses come up

Now that thats taken care of, Im still working on having a basic amp-less pedalboard that would be mostly used at Church and occasionally playing out. This puts me back to the drawing board. Im looking into the following preamps but am open to suggestions:

MXR M81 - Seems to be straightforward EQ preamp that does the job

EWS TriLogic 3 - Older preamp that seems to sound good and can be found in the same price range as the MXR with some more tone shaping options

Shift Line Olympic MKIII - This one is one I was considering before, and is much more expensive than the other two. The reason Im still considering this is because it includes a nice gain feature to add drive was well as a cab sim feature while maintaining a reasonably compact and well layed out format. Ultimately this would save me some money and space as it does have more features packed into it.

If money isn't an option, Noble is the bees knees.. small tubey goodness, and can power six pedals. As for simplicity, two knobs and a switch..

Option 2.. with six knobs, but simple enough to dial in that this idiot(me ) was able to handle it.. the Omni Cab Sim Deluxe.. has a headphone out for your IEM's, multiple hook up options

I recently went down the pre-amp pedal rabbit hole and the Shift Line Olympic won for me. It was more money than I wanted to spend but has been worth it. Sounds amazing and is very simple to use. The power requirement may not be ideal for some (12v 600mA) but if that is not a concern it is a great pedal.

I just redid my own small board and added a Tech21 Q strip. It has a bunch of knobs but is ultimately more straight forward than many. It bumped off a VT Bass DI. For my sound, this pedal and a compressor is all I need. It turns out that gain pedals just have me chasing my own tail. I can easily simulate the tone I had dialed in with the VT and still fix what I didn't like. In their sample settings there is a Sansamp example. I started there and tweaked.

I've lost count how many preamp pedals/boxes I've tried for my church FOH scenario. I've owned all the that you mentioned and my search ended with the MKIII. It's amazing and the single best pedalboard investment I've made to date and I've used a lot. I have no interest anymore in previous interests. The gain knob is the magic button and the EQ is so pleasant and useable across the entire rotation. Cab sims work very well and the DI is wonderful.

The Olympic MkIII is also on my board and I love it too! Best preamp I've had out of the few I've tried (VT Bass DI, DHA tube preamp and Vintage Ultra). The Vintage Ultra is still on my board but is being used purely as an OD. The Olympic has a great sound, can go from super clean to a nice tube grind, has two great cab sims and I love using the headphone and aux input for silent practice. I did forget about the OCSD. Originally I was planning to have a preamp running into the OCSD and then going to FOH. If I went with something like the MXR then I would still do that, but with the Olympic I wouldn't really need to. It would be kind of redundant, no? I run a tuner and OCSD. It's all I need for church and my cover band.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran a similar board like @SteveC posted... with just a tune, Cali76cb, and the OCSD... first time using it, was completely impressed with the huge quality of sound

Mixed the stream yesterday. Our regular lead singer is out for a few weeks. Chuck is piping some great harmonies. Love his voice. Never know how to make Aili's voice sound better. I keep thinking there is an eq problem but can't figure it out. There were some pitch issues. I wonder if she doesn't hear herself well in the in-ear.

I have considered getting a Helix HX Effects to pair with my Noble DI and build banks for bass playing and guitar playing. It seems to be a great sounding option for the money compared to getting stompboxes and all that.

My question is, how does it sound on bass? I have guitar friends who have the full Helix and they sound great, but never run a bass through them.

My current board is Tuner > Damnation Audio MBD-1 > Octaver > Noble DI

I really don't need the full Helix, just want the effects options. Playing guitar, I always run into an actual amp and the Noble is all I need on Bass.

One of the guys at church has the full Helix system, and it sounds pretty amazing. I think the small Helix and the Noble would be a good pairing. Both are excellent pieces of gear.

If you have the Noble, use it.. I've been doing electric guitar at church a bit ... all I've been using is my Korg Pitchblack, EQD Westwood for a tiny amount of grit, an EQD Dispatch Master... ran into the Noble, to the board. . It sounds crazy good and a very easy schlep

If you have the Noble, use it.. I've been doing electric guitar at church a bit ... all I've been using is my Korg Pitchblack, EQD Westwood for a tiny amount of grit, an EQD Dispatch Master... ran into the Noble, to the board. . It sounds crazy good and a very easy schlep

I'm using it for a similar setup as yourself. My DI is a VT bass deluxe and I have the HX. The sound quality is really good and with the routing and blending of your clean signals with an effect it works great for me. You can use dirt and keep your lows intact or 4 cable
With an amplifier and direct where your signal goes. It's great.
