I tried running bass->RNDI Thru->JDI->XLR out and that did not affect the RNDI signal to the sound board. It stayed strong the whole time. No difference from when I ran bass->RNDI XLR out-> sound board.

From this test, I believe that the problem is related to impedance. Since the JDI is passive, it is always presenting the 140K Ohm load. With the amp input and mixer input, they may be presenting a low impedance when not powered on, and load down the signal coming from the bass, resulting in the reduced output from the RNDI.

Thank you so much for your analysis! I really appreciate it. I may just use a buffered splitter before the RNDI if I really want to leave my amp connected to my pedal board.

I don't, but there are some highly regarded ones out there. Broughton Locust Star, Fuzzrocious Cat Tail, Dunwich Volt Thrower, an actual Rat, lol.

I've been using a Fuzzrocious Cat King since 2017. A few months ago I looped it into a Damnation Audio Loop Blender and now my Cat King sounds even better. I started with a Proco RAT2 some years ago, but never really liked that thing. The Fuzzrocious sounds far better on bass and has a lot more options for finding a dirty tone that sounds good. It also looks cooler and attaches to a pedal board better.

Since it's a dual distortion, I set the first distortion real low so it adds just a little grit, a little edge to my tone. I'll use that as my basic tone for fast songs. Then, when I want a little more (usually the bridge or an instrumental, sometimes a chorus towards the end of a song), I step on the second distortion which I have set add in some more dirt (but not too much haha--this is still CCM). I think it sounds great running into a phaser or chorus as well.

I'm starting to get serious about building a good board for my worship team. I'd like something super compact and minimal. Right now I'm using:
Peterson Strobe Tuner -> Boss OC-3 -> Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra with low gain for some mild overdrive. That goes out of the XLR to FOH and I use wireless in ears. Bass is ampless.

I have a Pedaltrain nano and I'd like to keep using that. Anyone know of a good sub for the Darkglass that maybe isn't quite so aggressive? I'm thinking a mainly clean tone but getting some breakup and definition when using a pick. We play a lot of Elevation Worship stuff if that helps hone in on the type we're playing here.

I was just wondering what other bassist were playing for there worship band! I have a pedal board but recently took it apart and i'm going to start over and build a new pedal board! Show you pictures!!

Worship pedalboard...... man, have I ever thrown money away buying & selling pedals to cut through the mix at church. Right now it's Aquilar TLX, SamsAmp Tech21, and Micro Pog Octaver. I've gone back to going direct w/ no effects.

I've been kind of intrigued by some of the tube options for pedalboard bass, but don't know how well it would work for my usages. Looks like the LA-1A, Reddi, and Oracle are the top units. Don't know if I could get any overdrive/breakup from any of those units though. A lot of the songs I play need a little overdrive with a pick. My complaint with the Darkglass is that the distortion gets to be too much a little too early, and it's quite precise and sterile. Maybe I just need to find the right impulse response.

To be more specific, check out the bass tone for Graves Into Gardens. That's about what I'm trying to get. Getting a clean tone seems pretty easy for me, it's the dirtier side that's harder to nail down. Graves Into Gardens by Elevation Worship, Brandon Lake

The DA MBD-1 is my all time fav OD pedal—works fabulous in church...and will achieve the tone you're after...

The settings above (when plucking) provide a quiet noise-floor, warm fat bass tone (not tubes, but tube'esque for sure...) Same setting with a pick, I get slight/mild break up with my Sadowsky basses. Zero loss of bottom end...my internal gain trim pot is set at 50%—this pedal has huge capability...fat, cuts amazingly—yet not brittle. Extremely versatile placement in your signal chain, too. Definitely an always-on pedal for me!

The LA-1A is not about distortion. You can get breakup from the Oracle if you drive it hard. I've not used a REDDI... yet.

Put the Shift-Line Olympic on your list.

Have you tried the Vintage Microtubes? I have a VMTD (early one) and you can get a nice mild drive pretty easily without increasing the overall volume level. I really like Darkglass pedals and amps - great stuff!

I did downsize from a Pedaltrain Novo 24 to a nano+ after going to a Morningstar MC-6 and Line 6 HX Stomp combo. I'm going back and forth about using a small expression pedal - nice to have but not used a lot with all of the preset options on the Morningstar. I tend to switch between presets more than changing parameters on the fly. Also, it is REALLY nice to go back to a light board. I have the Novo 24 in a hardshell case and it is HEAVY - I had it up for sale but only got ridiculous low-ball offers.

I tried one a while back. It didn't to our ears at the time have a tone that really Jumped out at us...not for the price anyway. I was close to pulling the trigger on one when I got the LA-1A. I may have enough "turbiness" now. And with this, the "turbiness" goes to the amp for my occasional amp gigs while the REDDI only sends tube goodness to the XLR and not the 1/4" through.

How do you like the DG Microtubes X Ultra? Pretty quiet noise floor when not using a lot of distortion, or pretty hissy?

It's been great. If you get the gain past 2 o clock then you get some light hum but that's cranking it pretty high for a Darkglass pedal IMO. Also worth nothing I'm using this with both my passive single coil Jazz Basses.
