I know this is coming back from the dead, but how do you like the Providence? I've been eyeing those lately. Does it add some character, or is it pretty transparent?
Lol that was a while ago. I'd say it's mostly transparent with the ability to add some character with the eq, especially the midrange. It's nice having two channels to set to your liking without drastically changing the overall tone. Haven't been using it lately (it's in the classifieds). Since then I've moved onto using a Trickfish Trilobite, which functionally is similar in many ways.
I love the idea of switching between the two EQ's. Honestly, if someone made a pedal that just had a toggle between two mid controls with a sweep, I'd buy that. I have been eyeing the Trickfish and Starlifter also.
I currently have the Radial Bassbone OD, which is a brilliant piece of gear, but I bought it when I had an electric upright also, so it was a real help with that, but it takes up a lot of real estate on the board. I love the features on it, but I'm not using a great number of them at this point. I could get everything I need with the Providence and my LS-2 most likely.
This is a really nice board. Do you still have it set up like this?
I still have that pedalboard, but it is empty, except for the power supply. I sold the Noble recently, as I just wasn't using it but once, or twice a year.
This is what I am currently using. I have my eyes on some different preamps, but I really don't need it at this time.
That's odd. I thought the noble was the preamp of all preamps. Did you find a better di? The board you have now looks really good too, I'm personally more of a square than rectangle pedalboard person though.

The Noble still is my all-time favorite pre/DI, and if I ever am in an iem only situation again, I would probably get another one. As it is, I do send to the board, but mainly for 'Live Stream' purposes. My in-house sound is taken care of by my Bergantino rig. In the rock band, when playing certain outdoor venues with full PA support, in addition to the Berg rig, I needed to send to FOH, and the Noble was the best. The current pedalboard is actually overkill for what I am doing, but I was spoiled. My Berg head (Forte HP) has a ton of tone shaping capabilities. I haven't felt the need for additional tone shaping with my passive Precisions, and my actives have (mostly) Sadowsky on-board preamps. The Broughton ETDI gives me an awesome tube DI, at less than half the cost of the Noble.
With a head like a Bergantino Forte HP you don't really need a DI - unless you want the tube thing. That head was ALMOST my everything but as 90% of my gigs are DI/IEM, I just couldn't justify a $1,400, 1,200 watt amp I'd barely use. There is rumor about a Bergantino preamp/DI pedal which would be awesome I'm sure.
You know, this is one of the things I really like about my TC Electronics RH450 amp head with the 3 presets that cover all the 4 bands of EQ with adjustable centers, Spectracomp compression, Tubetone and all that stuff, it's digital yes, but the the amount of EQ you can change with the push of a button without touching a knob is pretty amazing really. The sad part is I don't get to play it out much, I could bring it to church once we get our new place built out. I used to double with it lots a few years back when I had my NS CR-4T and used that and one of my Basses worked really well. If work were better and I actually had some work, I've been thinking strongly about getting another NS electric upright!
As a player of 30 years, I have spent a lot of time chasing tone. Here's my current issue/thought. I play a Warrior (with a Nordstrand 3-band pre) and a USA EBMM Sterling. Both 4 string. For a live situation where I need an amp, I use a Euphonic Audio iAmp500, which is really like having a great EQ in front of a power amp. There isn't really a "preamp" with color or character to it, don't get me wrong, I love my EA. I have a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor on the way to check it out. I guess my issue is that with the Warrior (my 90% of the time bass) having the Nordstrand pre in it, I don't know that I really need a preamp on my board, but I do need a DI. I currently have a Radial Bassbone OD, which is a brilliant piece of gear, but I'm going to sell it. I bought it because at the time I had an NS Design NXT electric upright, but I got rid of that, and the Radial just takes up too much space.
Should I chase a preamp, or just get a simple DI? For effects, I really only use octave, and occasionally a Bassballs. I am currently using the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor, but wanted to try the Hyper Luminal. Thoughts?

Since you love the Nordstrand onboard preamp I would suggest the Nordstrand Starlifter Preamp-DI pedal. I've put it up against the Reddi, Noble, SLO Tube Preamp, Mesa Subway, Khan, Trickfish and many more and for me it just is better in a live band situation. Only think I liked as good was the Noble but that is just another breed of DI's. For the money the Starlifter is great in live situations.
